I like this thread. Am I the only one?
My cousin sent me this in an email today. I don't know if there are other girls on here that remember the 70's, but I know there are some guys that surely do. Don't know how much you can relate to this, but I answered yes to almost EVERY one! I'm sure SOME of the guys did SOME of this stuff. Admit it!
Ah memories...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
IF YOU WERE A LITTLE GIRL IN THE 70'S......
You had that Fisher Price Doctor's Kit with a stethoscope that actually worked. (Yup! It was cool!)
You owned a bicycle with a banana seat and a plastic basket with flower s on it. (And those plastic strings hanging from the handle bars too!)
You learned to skate with actual skates (not roller blades) that had metal wheels. (Yeah, and wore them out at the roller rink!)
You thought Gopher from Love Boat was cute. Admit it! (Unfortunately, yes!)
You had nightmares after watching Fantasy Island . (Never! Who would? The plane!!)
You had either a 'bowl cut' or 'pixie', not to mention the 'Dorothy Hamill'. (Uh, yeah, just like the picture!)
You had rubber boots for rainy days and Moon boots for snowy days. (I'd forgotten about moon boots!)
YEAH! You owned a 'Slip-n-Slide', on which you injured yourself on a sprinkler head more than once. (Who didn't?)
You owned 'Klick-Klacks' and smacked yourself in the face more than once! (Not just my face either!)
Your Holly Hobbie sleeping bag was your most prized possession. (Again, yes!)
You wore a poncho, gauchos, and knickers. (Yes, yes, and we didn't call them that!)
You begged Santa for the electronic game, Simon. (And he gave me one!)
You had the Donnie and Marie dolls with those pink and purple satiny shredded outfits, or the sunshine family. (OMG! I had two Donnies! I loved those outfits!)
You spent hours in your backyard on your metal swing set with the trapeze. The swing set tipped over at least once. (That's too funny. But true. We were tough back then!)
You had homemade ribbon barrettes in every imaginable color. (Oh yeah!)
You had a pair of Doctor Scholl's sandals (the ones with hard sole & the buckle). You also had a pair of salt-water sandals. (Yes to both but I hated those Doctor Scholl's! They'd always fall off!)
You wanted to be Laura Ingalls Wilder really bad; you wore that Little House on the
Prairie-inspired plaid, ruffle shirt with the high neck in at least one school picture;
and you despised Nellie Oleson! (Never watched that dumb show but had the dumb shirt!)
PONG! ('video tennis' ) was the most remarkable futuristic game you've ever heard of! (Yeah, that was way technological! Ha)
Your hairstyle was described as having 'wings' or 'feathers' and you kept it 'pretty'
with the comb you kept in your back pocket.
When you walked, the 'wings' flapped up and down, looked like you were gonna 'take off' (Oh god. Yes to ALL! It took a long time to perfect those wings!)
You know who Strawberry Shortcake is, as well as her friends, Blueberry Muffin and Huckleberry Pie. (Well, duh.)
You carried a Muppets lunch box to school and it was metal, not plastic.
With the thermos inside some were glass inside and broke the first time you dropped them. (YES!)
You and your girlfriends would fight over which of the Dukes of Hazzard was your boyfriend. (I liked Luke.)
YOU had Star Wars action figures, too! (No, I played with my brothers!)
It was a big event in your household each year when the 'Wizard of Oz' would come on TV.
Your mom would break out the popcorn and sleeping bags! (YES! Same with The Sound of Music! So exciting. For real! Simpler time.)
You often asked your Magic-8 ball the question: 'Who will I marry.
Shaun Cassidy, Leif Garrett, or David Cassidy?' (Sean Cassidy of course.)
You completely wore out your Grease, Saturday Night Fever, and Fame soundtrack record album. (I still have them!!!)
You tried to do lots of arts and crafts, like yarn and Popsicle-stick God's eyes, decoupage,
or those weird potholders made on a plastic loom. (And macrame plant holders of course!)
You made Shrinky-Dinks and put iron-on kittens on your t-shirts! (OMG. I literally spent hours making Shrinky-Dinks!)
You used to tape record songs off the radio by holding your portable tape player up to the speaker.(Yes! Mostly Beatles. And of course The Yellow Submarine movie! I still have the tape!)
You had subscriptions to Dynamite and Tiger Beat. (Tiger Beat. Way better.)
You learned everything you needed to know about girl issues from Judy Blume books.
<Are you there God, It's me, Margaret.> (Don't girls still do this!?)
You thought Olivia Newton John's song 'Physical' was about aerobics. (Its not?!)
You wore friendship pins on your tennis shoes, or shoelaces with hearts or rainbow designs. (Again, yes! How stylish!)
You wanted to be a Solid Gold dancer. (I don't think so. But you never know!)
You drowned yourself in Love's Baby Soft - which was the first 'real' perfume you ever owned. (I loved it!)
You glopped your lips in Strawberry Roll-on lip-gloss till it almost dripped off. (Yeah, it was delicious!)
Wow. Now I feel really old! ??)

From Blender Magazine's list of 20 Biggest record company Screw Ups Of All Time:
#2 Decca Records A&R exec tells Fab Four, No, thanks.
Dick Rowe was not the only record-label executive who passed on the Beatles in the early '60s, but he was the only one who brushed off their manager, Brian Epstein, with the astute prediction that: "Groups with guitars are on their way out." Epstein begged Rowe to reconsider, so Rowe hopped a train to Liverpool to check out the band live. When he arrived at the Cavern, he found a mob of kids trying to force their way into the club in the pouring rain. Annoyed, he smoked a cigarette, went home and signed Brian Poole and the Tremeloes instead.
The whole list is here:

Here's some pictures I have taken....
This is a peice of cardboard that I found at work oneday..I was planning on making a collage of sorts when I happened to glance over and see a watermark...So I traced the water mark exactly as you see it and what-do-ya-know!! It's George!! Washington that is! It's a miracle!!
Another hard day at work...See what happens when you are a stateworker???
Found this in a local newspaper called the Sacramento News & Review. Apparently, Arnold made some movies (I guess documentary-type) back in his body builder days... and he openly smoked pot. In the paper he was quoted as saying "I smoked it and I loved it!!"
I saw this oneday at a local grocery store.....
Saw this another day in the same grocery store!
Ok that's my show and tell for the day. I played hooky today and was bored :)

It's from the movie Coming To America. If you have never seen it, you should watch it! It's starring Eddie Murphy & Arsenio Hall. They play most of the characters in the movie. It's a classic!!! Seriously, it's one of my favorite comedies of all time.

I just ran across something I found hilarious-- Joe Cocker performing "With a Little Help from my Friends", "captioned for the clear-headed".

That was so stinkin funny!!!!!!!!
They made fun of Joe Cocker on Saturday Night Live because of the way he performs. I have that Woodstock video and it cracks me up everytime I watch him. He must of been seriously out of it. ;D Wish I could have been there and seriously out of it too 8)

Thanks, HeatherBoo. I remember hearing this song on the record-- the vinyl kind-- thinking, "What is he saying?" Because it sure didn't sound like the real words. I love the sense of humor the person had to construct sound-alike phrases for his song.

It's a shame that it's just a list of words. More fun when they make some kind of sense.

I sent the video of Joe Cocker to my mom and she about peed her pants ;D
That version of the song always reminds me of the show "The Wonder Years" which was one of my favorite shows as a kid.

Eleanor Rigby
Sits at the keyboard
And waits for a line on the screen
Lives in a dream
Waits for a signal
Finding some code
That will make the machine do some more. What is it for?
All the lonely users, where do they all come from?
All the lonely users, why does it take so long?
Guru MacKenzie
Typing the lines of a program that no one will run;
Isn't it fun?
Look at him working,
Munching some chips as he waits for the code to compile;
It takes a while...
All the lonely users, where do they all come from?
All the lonely users, why does it take so long?
Eleanor Rigby
Crashes the system and loses 6 hours of work;
Feels like a jerk.
Guru MacKenzie
Wiping the crumbs off the keys as he types in the code;

All the lonely users, why does it take so long?
I found that somewhere, and I like it.

When I find my code in tons of trouble,
Friends and colleagues come to me,
Speaking words of wisdom:
"Write in C."
As the deadline fast approaches,
And bugs are all that I can see,
Somewhere, someone whispers:
"Write in C."
Write in C, Write in C,
Write in C, oh, Write in C.
LOGO's dead and buried,
Write in C.
I used to write a lot of FORTRAN,
For science it worked flawlessly.
Try using it for graphics!
Write in C.
If you've just spent nearly 30 hours,
Debugging some assembly,
Soon you will be glad to
Write in C.
Write in C, Write in C,
Write in C, yeah, Write in C.
BASIC's not the answer.
Write in C.
Write in C, Write in C
Write in C, oh, Write in C.

'It Was 40 Years Ago Today'
Washington Post
August 23
One of these names is not like the others: John, Paul, George, Ringo, Bo.
But Bo Bice, the 2005 "American Idol" runner-up trying to build a Southern-rock career, is among the artists in various stages of professional disrepair now performing in "It Was 40 Years Ago Today," a barnstorming . . . um . . . tribute to the album "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band." The show hit Baltimore's Pier Six on Thursday, and comes to Wolf Trap tonight.
Half the Beatles aren't around to feel shamed by this troupe's existence. But Todd Rundgren, the most credible of the cast members by a far sight, had to be rolling over in his cot in the greenroom as Lou Gramm, the onetime lead throat of '70s hard-rockers Foreigner, butchered whatever immortal tune he took a shot at. During "Fixing a Hole," Gramm sang, "It really doesn't matter if I'm right I'm wrong," which along with being inaccurate (it's "if I'm wrong I'm right") and screwing up Lennon/McCartney's rhyming scheme and timing, was morally off: On nights like this, Lou, being right really does matter.
Gramm, alas, did remember lines such as "You're making me sing/For your sweet sweet thing," from his own "Hot Blooded," which for some reason he was allowed to also sing.
Rundgren's reverence for the Beatles runs deeply through his own music -- even if he did blast John Lennon as "a [blankin'] idiot" in a 1973 magazine interview. Of all the cast members (others include Denny Laine and Christopher Cross), Rundgren had the most fun, pounding out the opening power chords for the title track and putting a big foam flower on his head while singing "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds." Cross had his best moments hitting very high notes in a version of "She's Leaving Home" that sounded a lot like Radiohead.
Bice, to be fair, gave an adequate reading of "With a Little Help From My Friends." But were Simon Cowell to judge "It Was 40 Years Ago Today," he might point out that the Beatles and this album deserve better than adequate.
And, geez Louise, it was 41 years ago, anyway.

Hugh Hefner to sack Playboy bunnies amid financial crisis
Playboy bunnies have become the latest victim of the credit crunch.
By Charlotte Bailey

Tycoon Hugh Hefner has been advised to cut back on staff at his multi-million dollar glamour empire as it struggles to cope during the global economic turmoil.
The 83-year-old has been told to lay off some of his staff at his Los Angeles and New York offices as soon as this month or go bankrupt.
The company has recently seen shares fall from £6.20 to £1.55.
An insider at the company told the Daily Star that bosses had been aware of the worsening situation for "a while".
"Only the top brass has known for a while how bad things have been for Hef recently."
Spokeswoman Elizabeth Austin would not confirm the sackings, saying: "It is our policy not to comment on corporate matters such as employee issues."
The news will be another blow to Hefner who recently discovered that two of his "bunnies" may have been cheating on him.
Holly Madison, who has previously been named as Hefner's "No.1" girlfriend, is alleged to have had an affair with magician Criss Angel and another bunny, Kendra Wilson, is reportedly dating football star Hank Baskett.
Playboy spokesman Rob Hillburger denied the rumours, saying: "The rumours that Holly left Hef for Criss Angel are not true. Holly and Kendra are all still living at the Mansion."

'Millionaire' Contestant Makes Worst Use Of Lifelines Ever
(http://h1.ripway.com/Bobber3/mill1.jpg)
Kathy Evans, the single dumbest contestant to ever get on 'Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?'
NEW YORK - Idaho resident Kathy Evans brought humiliation to her friends and family Tuesday when she set a new standard for stupidity with her appearance on the popular TV show, 'Who Wants To Be A Millionaire.'
It seems that Evans, a 32-year-old wife and mother of two, got stuck on the first question, and proceeded to make what fans of the show are dubbing 'the absolute worst use of lifelines ever.'
After being introduced to the show's host Meredith Vieira, Evans assured her that she was ready to play, whereupon she was posed with an extremely easy $100 question. The question was:
'Which of the following is the largest?'
A) A Peanut
B) An Elephant
C) The Moon
D) Hey, who you calling large
Immediately Mrs. Evans was struck with an all consuming panic as she realized that this was a question to which she did not readi ly know the answer.
'Hmm, oh boy, that's a toughie,' said Evans, as Vieira did her level best to hide her disbelief and disgust. 'I mean, I'm sure I've heard of some of these things before, but I have no idea how large they would be.'
Evans made the decision to use the first of her three lifelines, the 50/50. Answers A and D were removed, leaving her to decide which was bigger, an elephant or the moon. However, faced with an incredibly easy question, Evans still remained unsure.
'Oh! It removed the two I was leaning towards!' exclaimed Evans. 'Darn. I think I better phone a friend.'
Using the second of her two lifelines on the first question, Mrs. Evans asked to be connected with her friend Betsy, who is an office assistant.
'Hi Betsy! How are you? This is Kathy! I'm on TV!' said Evans, wasting the first seven seconds of her call. 'Ok, I got an important question. Which of the following is the largest? B, an elephant, or C, the moon. 15 seconds hun.'
Betsy quickly replied that the answer was C, the moon. Evans proceeded to argue with her friend for the remaining ten seconds.
'Come on Betsy, are you sure?' said Evans. 'How sure are you? Puh, that can't be it.'
To everyone's astonishment, the moronic Evans declined to take her friend's advice and pick 'The Moon.'
'I just don't know if I can trust Betsy. She's not all that bright. So I think I'd like to ask the audience,' said Evans.
Asked to vote on the correct answer, the audience returned 98% in favor of answer C, 'The Moon.' Having used up all her lifelines, Evans then made the dumbest choice of her life.
'Wow, seems like everybody is against what I'm thinking,' said the too-stupid-to-live Evans. 'But you know, sometimes you just got to go with your gut. So, let's see. For which is larger, an elephant or the moon, I'm going to have to go with B, an elephant. Final answer.'
Evans sat before the dumbfounded audience, the only one waiting with bated breath, and was told that she was wrong, and that the answer was in fact, C, 'The Moon.'
This one is actually better!!!

I doubt they care much about image, they just want viewers. They'd put a baboon on if they thought it would get them another point in the Nielsen ratings. ;D

Dang... that is just really sad. If your that dumb you probably shouldn't go on tv....

Very strange questions you`ve got in the show in America. :( We definitely have much more sophisticated ones. :o

We definitely have much more sophisticated ones. :o
Dunno; these shows seem to be full of people who can't get the "How many feet have you got?" question even if you spot them thirty seconds so they can look. ;D
-
The questions get much harder on that show, those questions are the first few so that you can easily get to a thousand dollars, so that you can at least leave the show with that much if nothing else. They make the first couple very easy for that reason. I guess even those questions are too hard for some ;D

Michael denies Jackson 5 reunion
Singer Michael Jackson has denied that he is to take part in a Jackson 5 reunion tour.
In a statement, the 50-year-old said he had "no plans to record or tour" with his siblings.
The statement comes a day after elder brother Jermaine said Michael was on board with the project.
Rumours of a reunion have circulated for years with Jermaine suggesting similar things before, in 2003 and again last year.
"My brothers and sisters have my full love and support, and we've certainly shared many great experiences, but at this time I have no plans to record or tour with them," he said.
"I am now in the studio developing new and exciting projects that I look forward to sharing with my fans in concert soon," he added.
Jermaine Jackson told the Australian Associated Press on Wednesday that the singing family was working on the music and logistics for a tour next year.
"It is going to be more like a family affair - Janet's going to open and, of course, the original Jackson 5 ... Michael, Randy and the whole family... we're in the studio, we're planning on being out there next year," he said.
The last time the original members performed together was at a concert in 2001 to celebrate Michael Jackson's 30 years in music.
The group last toured in 1984 by which time Michael Jackson was a huge star in his own right.

iPhone Google Voice Search Stumped by British Accent
Posted on Thu, 20 Nov 2008 13:01:38 GMT | by Shane McGlaun
Google's new voice recognition search engine for the iPhone has hit a glitch - it is stumped by British accents.
The application developed in the U.S cannot recognise regional twangs.
Users say the technology mistook the word 'iPhone' for 'sex,' 'Einstein' and even 'kitchen sink'.
The Google Mobile App is designed to work just like the traditional search engine. Rather than typing a query on the iPhone, users speak their search term and then view the results on the screen.
Saying the word pizza should spring up a selection of local pizza restaurants and invite you to call them with a single click of the phone.
And uttering 'Barack Obama' should bring you all the latest Google results about the new U.S. president.
But one user with a Kentish accent was clearly unhappy with his experience.
When Roger Ellinson, 26, from Maidstone asked for her nearest pizza take away, it delivered 'something about volcanoes.'
Asked about his nearest pub, the screen flashed up 'some kind of weird dating website.'
'I'll have to try to put on my best American accent to get it to work,' he concluded.
Similar problems are reported on the application's website, AFP said.
"Awesome job google," one commenter wrote. "Only problem is every time I say the word 'fish' it registers as 'sex'."
Accents from different parts of Britain brought back different results after voice-searching for 'iPhone', the Daily Telegraph reported.
A search by a Yorkshireman brought back results for "bonfire", a Kent accent brought back "my sister", and a Surrey accent returned "MySpace".
Welsh accents fared the worst, returning "gorillas" and "kitchen sink", while a Scotsman was given results for "sex".
Online forums have shown a dramatic trans-Atlantic divide in response, with US users waxing lyrical about the service but British users stumped.
A user from Lincolnshire said his Irish lilt was a drawback.
'Irish obviously isn't the best accent to have. I tried about 20 different 2-4 word phrases and not one came out right,' he wrote.
But a spokesman for Google said the tool is not designed for UK accents.
He said: 'The product is for U.S. English. You're welcome to use it, but we can't guarantee it'll work with British accents.'
-

Cowell Outranks God
10:45am UK, Monday December 15, 2008 / Sky News (http://news.sky.com/skynews/Home/UK-News/Simon-Cowell-More-Famous-Than-God-Or-The-Queen-Survey-Of-British-Kids-Under-10/Article/200812315180581?lpos=UK_News_Third_Home_Page_Article_Teaser_Region__0&lid=ARTICLE_ID15180581_Simon_Cowell_More_Famous_Than_God_Or_The_Queen%3A_Survey_Of_British_Kids_Under_10)
In a sample of 1,600 under-10s, the TV personality was the top answer to the question: "Who is the most famous person in all the world?"
God and the Queen ran a close second and third.
The youngsters put 'good looks' at the top of the "very best things in the world" list while the most common answer to the "very worst things in the world" was 'being fat'.
This was followed closely by 'divorce'.
And when asked what rules they would make if they were king or queen of the world, the number one response was 'to ban divorce'.
In addition, those surveyed said 'bullying' would also be banned - up from number three last year and number five the year before.
Saturday remains the best day of the week for most, because there is no school and they can stay up late to watch television.
Patricia Murchie, of Luton First - who carried out the research - said: "It seems clear that many pre-teens are more concerned than ever with their looks and weight - possibly reflecting media images of glamour, and new educational initiatives in nutrition and healthy eating."
About two-thirds of the children who took part said they were happy, but 27% were not and a further 7% were unsure.
-
That is so sad...the worst thing in the world is being fat?

I was gonna post the youtube video of Bill Hicks' rant about drugs and music, but it's got some pretty nasty language in it, so I won't. But damn it's funny. And sadly true.

^ ;D Bill Hicks is the funniest North American comedian on the planet. Canadian?
Canadian???? Not even! He was born in Georgia. (http://www.freewebby.com/action-smilies/arsespank.gif)
:X
Hicks on crime in England. This bit has certainly angered and outraged many Brits over on youtube. Apparently the crime over there is hardcore these days. Still, I don't know how people can get offended at obviously exaggerated comedy. It's hysterical either way.

One of my favorite Bugs Bunny episodes EVER. I suppose nowadays it wouldn't be aired cuz it's politically incorrect. ::) They had a quote once on Seinfeld that I thought was so great. Mainly because, I'm guilty of it!

Teen superstar Miley Cyrus has recorded a cover version of John Lennon peace anthem Imagine.
The 16-year-old hit the studio for a duet with her Hannah Montana: The Movie co-star Emily Osment after the pair bonded on the set of the film, through their love of the late Beatles legend.
Cyrus tells Moviefone.com, "I'm just a huge John Lennon fan. I studied him in school, and just watched the movie Chapter 27 (which depicts his murder).
"We (Cyrus and Emily Osment) did a duet of Imagine, in the studio."
Cyrus doesn't reveal if the duet will ever be released - but she insists fans shouldn't be surprised by her eclectic musical taste.
She adds, "I don't think the music you produce has to be the the music you listen to. I like singing pop music, and I like dancing. And you can't really dance a lot to rock and roll. I like Nirvana. I really like Radiohead. I really love the Beatles."

Here's an absolutely terrible joke I heard from one of the members of Maxïmo Park...
A dual carriageway walks into a bar, and everyone becomes really nervous and thinks "bloody hell, that thing's pretty big, I hope nothing kicks off". However, the dual carriageway goes up to the bar and orders a drink, and nothing bad happens.
Then, a motorway comes into the bar. Again, everyone thinks "Jesus! That thing's massive! It's actually a bit scary..." But again, the motorway just gets a drink and sits down, so everyone calms down.
Next, a garden path comes into the bar, and everyone looks and thinks "Ha, that's not so bad. I suppose these roads aren't so scary after all." The bartender asks, "Hello there, what can I get you?"
Suddenly, the dual carriageway and the motorway turn around and shout "OH MY GOD! Don't trust him, he's a psychopath!"
All together now... *Eye roll* ;D

That, no doubt, would be how my upside-down "cookie bowls" would turn out ha2ha
-
It would seem to me that if you wanted to get those cookie bowls right you need to use two muffin pans; the second one to squash the dough down onto the first. But I don't cook so that's just my theory.
The easiest thing is to just eat store bought cookies and fruit at the same time and not go through all that fuss.
-
Anyway, who eats cookies and fruit at the same time? I don't.

I do bake quite bit and I can tell you that would never work! There is actually a pan to make these with and I think the bowls in the top picture were made with one. A regular muffin tin wouldn't make a nice fluted design even if this did happen to work. I think I'm going to order one of those pans but my bowls will be filled with ice cream!

They both failed miserably. Let us know how you make out with one of those special cookie cup pans you found. Me? I'd rather have an ice cream cone. Not one of those waffle-like cones, but rather a hard sugar cone.
-
I still think a two-tin technique would work.
Hey Todd, what do you think? ha2ha

I think i'd eat cookie dough regardless of how it looked or got cooked. ha2ha

I really laughed at that poor guy. He seemed to think it turned out just great. I'm starting to think this might not be a great idea, even with a pan. I went to the baking website of all baking websites and searched for cookie cups and they don't have anything about them. I think they are an urban legend. I did find this for my next project though:

Wait a minute! Urban legend? I thought you said there was a dedicated pan to make these cookie cup things. ;D
Yeah that chef knew his cookie cups came out like crap yet he continued to act authoritative. At least the girl admitted she failed.
-

I'd eat those messy chocolate chip cookie cup things too, Todd.
Right! Who cares what it looks like. In a few hours once it's well along its way through the digestive tract, it will look quite different. And in a couple of days it will be even more unrecognizable when it is egested.
-
Speaking of chocolate chip cookie dough....Anyone remember when it was fun to eat it raw, out of the bowl, before all the fears about salmonella arose? Some of my fondest childhood memories are of scooping out some uncooked dough and scarfing it down (and of course the warm, gooey, freshly baked ones were even better).

Yeah, but I am getting less and less sure it will actually work. I need to find a video of someone successfully using it. Ice cream cones are sounding better all the time!

Who needs cookie cups?!
-
Very enlightening Barry! I feel inspired once again. I think the lady with the little jars is the winner. Premade cookie dough and pecans aside (I can't stand either) I like the idea of baking these inside something that they can be served in. Removing them was what scared me. I have a bunch of custard cups that should do the trick. Until then, though, I think there's some chocolate ice cream in the freezer. Oh, and I'm not sure how the bombed grasshopper lady did; she lost me after about three minutes. ha2ha
-
I think the lady with the little jars is the winner.
She'd be the winner if she took whatever she made out of the jars. The exercise here was free-standing, intact cookie cups.

Boy, can I relate to that! My German Shepherd has actually been the best about not chewing. It's my Labs that have been the most obnoxious. I should have taken pictures of all the remote controls we had destroyed. We were on a first name basis with the people at the cable office.
-
I hear you Kelley. Our Shepherd has been a handful since birth though. When he was a puppy we found him in the garage chewing on a piece of angle iron. He was costing us about $40 a week chewing up the neighbors toys. The past couple years he's chewed and eaten my CD player remote, a Moody Blues CD, a prized Seattle Seahawks hat that I cant replace (still dont know how he got to it), boots, motorcycle tire, and more clothes than I can type.

Roo wreaks havoc in office
Jennifer Eliot
© The Cairns Post
AN Atherton psychologist got the fright of her life yesterday when a large kangaroo busted into her office and forced her to leap on to a desk for safety.
The 1.5m roo created more than six minutes of havoc at the office shared by psychologist Suzanne Habib and disability employment agency, Commonwealth Rehabilitation Services Australia.
But the drama did not end there.
The escaping roo bolted out of the office and nearly knocked over an elderly woman using a walking fame to make her way along Railway Lane before the frightened animal headed up Jack St.
Pictures: Cairns wildlife
Ms Habib said it was a huge surprise to be greeted by a kangaroo.
"Normally it’s very quiet and orderly in my office," she said.
"But it came without a referral or an appointment.
"My heart was pounding like anything.
"I don’t know where it came from or where it went."
More weird news
CRS regional employment liaison officer Tony Baddock said the morning had started off normally and was rocked by a loud scream by Ms Habib.
He rushed into her office and found the psychologist calling for help while standing on her desk as the roo desperately tried to escape through metal bars on the window.
"It must have come in through the door and then went into Sue’s office without her seeing it and then all of a sudden it leapt up," he said.
"I had to help her over the desk so she could get past it and then I headed it out of the office."
Tableland Printing Service owner Colleen McIvor caught the tail end of the action when she came to the aid of the elderly woman.
"It was coming down the street really fast," she said.
"He didn’t even baulk at us and he was really agitated."

OK, I found a Boy Scout site with some clean jokes to send my son, and I found this groaner. Enjoy ;D
St. Peter was guarding the Pearly Gates, waiting for new souls coming to heaven. He saw Jesus walking by and caught his attention. “Jesus, could you mind the gate while I go do an errand?”
“Sure,” replied Jesus. “What do I have to do?”
“Just find out about the people who arrive. Ask about their background, their family, and their lives. Then decide if they deserve entry into Heaven.”
“Sounds easy enough. OK.”
So Jesus manned the gates for St. Peter. The first person to approach the gates was a wrinkled old man. Jesus summoned him to sit down and sat across from him. Jesus peered at the old man and asked, “What did you do for a living?”
The old man replied, “I was a carpenter.”
Jesus remembered his own earthly existence and leaned forward. “Did you have any family?” he asked.
“Yes, I had a son, but I lost him.”
Jesus leaned forward some more. “You lost your son? Can you tell me about him?”
“Well, he had holes in his hands and feet.”
Jesus leaned forward even more and whispered, “Father?”
The old man leaned forward and whispered, “Pinocchio?”

Reading Dr. Seuss books to my kids was one of the best parts of their childhood for me! He was a brilliant man and knew how to put messages for the grown-ups among the silly words and funny pictures. He actually worked in advertising, as an illustrator for the government and did political cartoons before he wrote children's books. I have a government issued postcard in my collection from WWI that he did. A soldier sent it to someone. Here's a 1933 ad I found in a New Yorker magazine:

I feel just like I did when I was a little kid and a grown-up would tell a joke that I didn't get!
-
Just saw this in a comments section of a news article, and it made me laugh:
Five surgeons from big cities are discussing who makes the best patients to operate on.
The first surgeon, from New York, says, "I like to see accountants on my operating table because when you open them up, everything inside is numbered."
The second, from Chicago, responds, "Yeah, but you should try electricians! Everything inside them is color coded."
The third surgeon, from Los Angeles, says, "No, I really think librarians are the best, everything inside them is in alphabetical order."
The fourth surgeon, from Dallas, chimes in: "You know, I like construction workers...Those guys always understand when you have a few parts left over."
But the fifth surgeon, from Washington, DC, shut them all up when he observed: "You're all wrong. Politicians are the easiest to operate on. There's no guts, no heart,
no balls, no brains, and no spine. Plus, the head and the **** are interchangeable."
-
;D

No wonder I can't seem to function properly; my ass is where my brain should be!

Apparently it's a children's television show. This is a translation from the website for the network they are on:
Biss and Kajas doing a television show that is about what you can do with your body. Along with Rumporkestern (the house band) they to try to get answers to questions like: Can you dance with your nose? Who is the best football player? And what can you really do with your back?"
I have no idea what question they were trying to answer in that clip you found! And I thought Teletubbies were weird!

That is a very bizarre clip, Dmitry!
Omigosh, I loathed Teletubbies. Both my daughters adored them. I found the show not only annoying but also kind of creepy.

Oh, cockle burrs, wet and muddy etc... that kind of trouble. She doesn't like me pulling burrs out of her tail. She knows she's in for an unpleasant operation when I do that! She's a very smart dog so I think the teletubbies are just about intellect appropriate for her!

I've been laughing about this ever since I read this earlier tonight:
Cuddles and hugs can heal many ills, including the feelings of a broken heart. By holding your broken-hearted friend, you can actually help them to overcome their problems as an embrace can instantly boost Oxycontin levels. Oxycontin is known to affect feelings like anger, loneliness and grief, so next time your friend is at their low point, just being there really may be all they need.
I think they meant oxytocin! LOL

Thanks, but my knowledge is a drop in the bucket compared to a lot of folks out there. I spent 15 years on ocean liner forums and then gave up (I still check in once in awhile) because the details (and the arguments about various hot-button topics) just got exhausting. The Beatles are a bit more lighthearted!

Dr. Fu Kiu Wong
Recognized around the world for his unique perspective on weight-loss and health maintenance.
Here are some excerpts from a recent question and answer session with Dr. Wong:
Q: Doctor, I've heard that cardiovascular exercise can prolong life. Is this true?
A: Your heart only good for so many beats, and that it... Don't waste on exercise. Everything wear out eventually. Speeding up heart not make you live longer; it like saying you extend life of car by driving faster. Want to live longer? Take nap.

Q: Should I reduce my alcohol intake?
A: No, not at all. Wine made from fruit. Brandy is distilled wine, that mean they take water out of fruity bit so you get even more of goodness that way. Beer also made of grain. Bottom up!
_______________
Q: How can I calculate my body/fat ratio?
A: Well, if you have body and you have fat, your ratio one to one. If you have two bodies, your ratio two to one, etc.
_______________
Q: What are some of the advantages of participating in a regular exercise program?
A: Can't think of single one, sorry. My philosophy is: No pain...good!
_______________
Q: Aren't fried foods bad for you?
A: YOU NOT LISTENING! Food are fried these day in vegetable oil. In fact, they permeated by it. How could getting more vegetable be bad for you?!?
_______________
Q: Will sit-ups help prevent me from getting a little soft around the middle?
A: Definitely not! When you exercise muscle, it get bigger.. You should only be doing sit-up if you want bigger stomach.
_______________
Q: Is chocolate bad for me?
A: Are you crazy?!? HEL-LO-O!! Cocoa bean! Another vegetable! It best feel-good food around!
_______________
Q: Is swimming good for your figure?
A: If swimming good for your figure, explain whale to me.

I didn't know whether to laugh uproariously at this or swear off exercise for good! Fortunately it's just a parody. LOL
"Mariko Takahashi's Fitness Video for Being Appraised as an "Ex-fat Girl" (often referred to as Doggy Fitness or Poodle Fitness) is a short film by renowned art director and commercial film director Nagi Noda who created spots for Nike and Coca-Cola and starring Mariko Takahashi, a California born model. The film was created for Panasonic's Ten Short Movies – Capture the Motion series for the 2004 Summer Olympics. The film is a word-for-word parody of Susan Powter's first workout video except the video's instructor is dressed in a body suit giving her the appearance of having muscles shaped like the fur of a groomed poodle dog. Also, exercising with her in the video are six actors dressed in dog costumes, with actual live dogs' heads superimposed over their real heads. Nagi Noda, in her artist's statement, explained that she arrived at the poodle concept after noticing that the dogs' hair cuts resembled muscles. She believed that this concept would help her video appeal to people of all ages.
The video circulated throughout the Internet since it was posted on the Panasonic website along with the other nine short films in 2004. Possibly contributing to its popularity, Noda never explains in the video why people in the video are wearing dog costumes, leaving viewers to speculate. Many early viewers had speculated that it was somehow related to furry fandom, though it seems more likely that this is meant to be purely surreal for its own sake."

Did you know poodles were originally German sporting dogs? Their fur exhausted them and dragged them down so the hunters started trimming off the excessive fur leaving only the fur around the joints for warmth and on the tip of the tail so they could see them while retrieving! And then...

Yes, those standard poodles are a lot tougher than most people give them credit for. They've also been used as guide dogs although the one I knew that was a candidate didn't make it. She was very quirky and wouldn't eat unless she was hand fed. But boy could Sassy swim. She put even our Labs to shame!

Finally, low technology triumphs! My younger daughter and her friend had to make some dish for their Spanish class, and one of the ingredients was some potatoes. I came out to the kitchen at one point, and they are both clumsily -- and slowly -- trying to peel the potatoes with paring knives. I was like, "Sheesh, just use a vegetable peeler!" and got a potato peeled in about 15 seconds. They were doubled over with laughter. These are kids who can figure out a smartphone in literally a minute while I am still muddling around tapping icons and getting annoyed.
The whole situation was so ironic, I am still laughing about it.

My daughter Elizabeth did that in school and I had to buy saffron for the recipe she chose and it ended up costing me like eleventy seven thousand dollars to just make a small Mexican dish. I still have the remainder almost 20 years later. I was silently ripped as I got this regular spice bottle at the store and when I opened it , it was in a little folded white paper packet that had just a smudge of spice in it! >:( !!!
However , her dish was a big success so it was worth it! ;D

Thank you Dave and Kathy. She's 7 years old now but very camera shy so I don't have a lot of good current pictures. She really is a sweetheart...now. When she was a puppy though she was a real terror and not just nippy; she was nasty! A few years ago we took some dogs back to the training school and when they asked us who we had raised we were informed that Pekoe was the meanest puppy they'd ever seen. I don't think they believed us when we told them how sweet she was as an adult!

That's a good one Kathy! Speaking of ships, I know your interest is the big ocean liners but I thought you might like to see what I came across. It's the Ariosto, the ship that took my grandfather from Sweden to Hull, England in 1903. I still haven't figured out what took him to Boston but he departed, several days after arriving in Hull, from Liverpool. I laugh when I think of my 18 year old grandfather being in Liverpool! I've never heard any stories about that!

Interesting, Kelley! I've never heard of the Wilson Line (which apparently built the Ariosto). Interesting, too, that your grandfather spent some time in Liverpool. I really need to do some genealogical research and see if I can determine on which ships my own ancestors came to America.

I can't figure out how to get pics to show up in the body of the message instead of just as an attachment....
Anyway, this gave me a surprised laugh. ;D

Kathy, Family Search (https://familysearch.org/) is a great free site. It's run by the Mormon Church and has all kinds of records, including immigration. Of course there's also Ancestry.com which sometimes gives free access to certain records and occasionally to the whole site. I'll let you know the next time they do that.
As for the picture question, here's a tutorial: How to Upload Pictures (http://www.dmbeatles.com/forums/index.php?topic=7946.msg184258#msg184258) The only change is that you don't have to click on the little picture icon. Just copy and paste the IMG link that comes up after you upload your picture to whichever hosting site you choose. I use Photo Bucket but I really think TinyPic is a lot simpler to use, especially if you don't need to save what you've uploaded.

You're welcome Kathy. Even though I'm on Facebook I never use it to sign up for anything.
-
Even though I'm on Facebook I never use it to sign up for anything.
I worry about Facebook privacy settings (that's not the only reason I'm not on it). I need to seriously check my Google permissions and
settings. The other night I realized my phone and home PC are synchronized in terms of websites I visit: I was trying to pull up a game
on my phone to show the kids something, and a page on Roman Catholic annulments popped up, which I had been looking at on my PC.
Luckily I snatched the phone away before any of them noticed. I find out tomorrow if the case will be accepted, and if it's not then I'm
not saying a word. The civil divorce was traumatic enough for them.
So anyway, I definitely need to check out my settings on my phone and for the gmail account I had to sign up for in order to get any
apps! ;) Probably should have gone with an iPhone.
-

I think Google is actually harder to deal with in terms of security than Facebook. I've got my settings tight there on FB but I agree; it is a concern. I'm often amazed at how lax many peoples' setting are and what some people will say there. I hope everything turns out well for you with your case.
-

I've heard that as well (i.e., that Google is "worst" in terms of privacy). I haven't had the time yet, but I am definitely going to be adjusting my settings. I detest the feeling of being "followed" on the Web.

This browser add on really helps with targeted ads: Google Analytics Opt-Out (https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout) Or if you want to get rid of ads entirely there's this: Ad Block Plus (https://adblockplus.org/) No more crap jumping around on web pages or strange videos you "might like".

I have those all the time, as well as on related topics (e.g., can't find my car in the parking lot)! I am so glad -- really -- to hear I'm not the only one.
-

Again -- me, too! It sounds silly, but this has been a lousy day, and I was relieved to see your and Kelley's posts, Barry. None of my friends seem to have these dreams.
I'm glad I decided to stop by the forum tonight and skim the posts. It's always nice to know one is not alone in a particular situation (for lack of a better word). :)
-

Ah...I'm in even more good company! I have the car dreams too Kathy. Sometimes I can't find it and sometimes I'm driving it like a maniac. I'll get it under control for a little bit but then it happens again. But the worst are the telephone dreams. I've been dreaming for years that I have to make an important call and the phone won't work. They've even evolved over the years as technology has changed. Before I got a cell phone that was what I tried to use in the dreams with no luck. Now they involve my iPhone not looking or working right. Sometimes I even substitute my computer and that is a whole other night of fun. ha2ha
-

I take it there's no Rebel, Rebels with you in those dreams. ;) Those are neat looking cars. Was it a hard or soft top?
-
^
Right, Kelley. I'm alone and driving the car with the top down on a country road.
-
^^^
That's a nice recurring dream to have. I wish I could trade mine in for something like that.
-
^
Yeah, Kelley. But in real life the MGB, with its Lucas electrics, was not a very dependable car. If I drove through a big puddle the car would stall out and I'd have to wait an hour or so for things to dry before it could be restarted.
Kevin had an MGB too. Remember the drama, Kev?

I learned to drive in a Ford Fairmont station wagon that did that. You definitely would have looked cooler waiting an hour than I did. The car we had just before that one was a Cutlass Supreme. I was bummed that I missed out on that one but my uncle sold us his Cutlass the next year and that became my car. Then I was un-bummed. I loved that car.

Just stumbled across this online and thought it was too funny not to share. . .
A couple were Christmas shopping. The shopping centre was packed, and as the wife walked around she was surprised to discover that her husband was nowhere to be seen.
She was quite upset because they had a lot to do, and she became so worried that she called him on her mobile phone to ask him where he was.
In a quiet voice, he said: "Do you remember the jewelers we went into about five years ago, where you fell in love with that diamond necklace that we couldn't afford, and I told you that I would get it for you one day"?
The wife choked up and started to cry and said "Yes, I do remember that shop."
He replied, "Well, I'm in the pub next door."

TIME TO LAUGH A BIT.
THE 1st AFFAIR
A married man was having an affair with his secretary.
One day they went to her place and made love all afternoon.
Exhausted, they fell asleep and woke up at 8 PM.
The man hurriedly dressed and told his lover to take his shoes outside and rub them in the grass and dirt.
He put on his shoes and drove home.
'Where have you been?' his wife demanded.
'I can't lie to you,' he replied, 'I'm having an affair with my secretary. We had sex all afternoon.'
She looked down at his shoes and said: 'You lying bastard! You've been playing golf!'
THE 2nd AFFAIR
A middle-aged couple had two beautiful daughters but always talked about having a son.
They decided to try one last time for the son they always wanted.
The wife got pregnant and delivered a healthy baby boy.
The joyful father rushed to the nursery to see his new son. He was horrified at the ugliest child he had ever seen.
He told his wife: 'There's no way I can be the father of this baby. Look at the two beautiful daughters I fathered! Have you been fooling around behind my back?'
The wife smiled sweetly and replied: 'No, not this time!'
THE 3rd AFFAIR
A mortician was working late one night. He examined the body of Mr. Schwartz, about to be cremated, and made a startling discovery. Schwartz had the largest private part he had ever seen!
'I'm sorry Mr. Schwartz,' the mortician commented, 'I can't allow you to be cremated with such an impressive private part. It must be saved for posterity.'
So, he removed it, stuffed it into his briefcase, and took it home.
'I have something to show you won't believe,' he said to his wife, opening his briefcase.
'My God!' the wife exclaimed, 'Schwartz is dead!'
THE 4th AFFAIR
A woman was in bed with her lover when she heard her husband opening the front door.
'Hurry,' she said, 'stand in the corner.'
She rubbed baby oil all over him, then dusted him with talcum powder.
'Don't move until I tell you,' she said. 'Pretend you're a statue.'
'What's this?' the husband inquired as he entered the room.
'Oh it's a statue,' she replied. 'The Smiths bought one and I liked it so I got one for us, too.'
No more was said, not even when they went to bed.
Around 2 AM the husband got up, went to the kitchen and returned with a sandwich and a beer.
'Here,' he said to the statue, 'have this. I stood like that for two days at the Smiths and nobody offered me a damned thing.'
THE 5th AFFAIR
A man walked into a cafe, went to the bar and ordered a beer.
'Certainly, Sir, that'll be one cent.'
'One Cent?' the man exclaimed.
He glanced at the menu and asked: 'How much for a nice juicy steak and a bottle of wine?'
'A nickel,' the barman replied.
'A nickel?' exclaimed the man. 'Where's the guy who owns this place?'
The bartender replied: 'Upstairs, with my wife.'
The man asked: 'What's he doing upstairs with your wife?'
The bartender replied: 'The same thing I'm doing to his business down here.'
THE 6th & BEST AFFAIR
Jake as dying. His wife sat at the bedside. He looked up and said weakly: 'I have something I must confess.'
‘There's no need to, 'his wife replied.
'No,' he insisted, 'I want to die in peace. I slept with your sister, your best friend, her best friend, and your mother!'
'I know,' she replied. 'Now just rest and let the poison work.'

The guy sitting next to me is 6'2", weighs 275, and he's a rugby player. The fella to your right is 6'5", pushing 300, and he's a wrestler. Each one of us is blond. Think about it, Mister. No. 2 on the list reminds me of these creepy tiny plastic baby dolls I got my girls that sang (out of tune) and chattered, but we could NOT get them to shut up, so—just as with the Furby in No. 2—their father snuck them out to the garage one night and smashed them with a hammer.
Anyway:

How did the girls react to having their dolls heads stoved in?
Or did you just tell them that they ran away from home? ha2ha

^^^^
You know, I can't really recall how the girls reacted, so they must not have been too upset. (Then again, they had a surfeit of toys.)
I did eventually rat him out. ;D

I haven’t got any time for Harry and Meghan for their antics, but jeez the Royals don’t do themselves any favours either.

But Time included them on their list of "Most Influential People" of 2021" — ha2ha —proving, as the New York Post snarked, "that magazines are more irrelvant and out of touch than ever."

Muddling my way through an ESL manuscript, got frustrated and bored and started to poke around online and found this: ;D
Pope John Paul II was on a tour of the United States some years ago. During a stop in Atlanta, an admirer presented him with a beautiful handmade ring. But somehow, in the hectic confusion of the tour, the ring was misplaced.
"Don't worry, Your Holiness," said the pope's aide. "I'm sure it will turn up before we leave the States."
The tour was so busy that the lost ring slipped everyone's mind. The pope and his entourage were on the jet, preparing for the trip back to Vatican City. Just then a Beatles song came on the loudspeaker.
The aide stood up. "Hey, that reminds me," he said. "Where did John Paul's Georgian ring go?"

An Englishman and and Irishman go to a bakery. The Englishman steals three buns and puts them into his pockets and leaves. He says to the Irishman: “That took great skill and guile to steal those buns. The owner didn’t even see me.”
“That’s just simple thievery,” the Irishman replies. “I’ll show you how to do it the honest way and get the same results.”
The Irishman proceeds to call out the owner of the bakery and says, “Sir, I want to show you a magic trick.” The owner is intrigued, so he comes over to see the trick.
The Irishman asks him for a bun and then proceeds to eat it. He asks two more times, and after he has eaten both buns, the owner says “OK, my friend; where’s the magic trick?”
The Irishman then says, “Look in the Englishman’s pockets.”

I feel a little mean sharing this, but I found the irony of this photo, which is from the local newspaper, amusing:
