Book thread!
« on: April 09, 2005, 10:51:38 PM »

I can't believe we don't have one of these already! Anyways, this is a thread where you can list your favorite books, or what you're currently reading.

My Favorites:
The Outsiders- S.E. Hinton
Harry Potter- J.K. Rowling
Alice, I Think- Susan Juby
To Kill A Mockingbird- Harper Lee
Matilda- Roald Dahl (I think it can be read and understood on different levels. It's not just a kid's book)

Currently reading:
The Dionnes- Ellie Tesher (It's the story of the Dionne Quintuplets. It's really sad, their lives... they were treated like animals in a zoo when they were young, then when they were older they were sexually abused by their father. And the whole time, people were stealing from their trust fund. The surviving three were living in poverty around 1998.)

It's considered a classic along with Joseph Conrad's Heart of Darkness. I enjoyed Scarlet Letter. It's all about a matter of taste, I guess.

The Catcher in the Rye is a great book...Holden is probably one of my favorite book characters.

Some books I love are:

A Confederacy of Dunces-John Kennedy Toole
Discworld Series- Terry Pratchett
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy "trilogy"-Douglas Adams (Anyone going to catch the flick?)

Mostly some comedic stuff, although I am really digging Hamlet and Julius Caesar which I'm reading in English class.

Wow, Indica, I thought I was the only one who read different books at the same time! I wasn't going to post that, because I though people would say I was weird, but now I don't feel like such an oddball. So...

What does everyone see in J.D. Salinger???? I really cannot get into him. I've read Catcher in the Rye and couldn't stand it.

Ah, the classics!

Lord of the Flies was disturbing, but it was an excellent book.

It was disturbing, but fascinating. Although I haven't read it in years. Kinda reminded me of Animal Farm for some reason. I don't know why.

Reading different books at the same time is what I tend to usually do with books I don't really care too much for and it's sad that I can't really get into too many books nowadays. I can hardly finish half of them.
