Ok...heres how it goes. I ask a question about any Beatles song and the person who answers it asks the next one.
What is the shortest song the Beatles ever recorded?
JWL
P.S. All questions have to be about songs....can't jus be general Beatles trivia. I hope this isn't too confusing!?
-
Her Majesty I think. If thats right then-
What was there longest song ever recorded.
-

I reckon it was Revolution #9
What is unique about What Goes On?

I just checked in a book - apparently Hey Jude is 7:15, Revolution #9 is 8:15, I Want You (She's So Heavy) is 7:44.
These times might be wrong though - I didn't check the actual CDs.
-
What Goes On is a Lennon/McCartney/Starkey composition.
I think Ringo must have contributed a line or two since it had actually been written for the most part before he was in the group!
Next question. What three Beatles songs are in the form of letters?
-
dear prudence, martha my dear?,do you want to know a secret?[?]

Thats a tough one. Three good choices there, but i'd scratch Martha and throw in P.S. I love you???
-
Ok...I think maybe you made a mistake on this one, but here goes:
P.S. I Love You
Paperback Writer
Are both definitely in the "form" of a letter....however, I cannot think up another song that fits this mold. I know plenty of other songs which talk about writing a letter, but are not actually in the form of a letter....The closest thing I can think of is:
Dear Prudence
Which opens with a greeting similar to a letter, but there is no evidence of a letter being written.
I would really like to hear the 3rd song, because I am stumped.

The best answer was The End's! But the real answer is 1.PSI love You. 2.Paperback Writer and for JWL........ 3.When I'm 64. (Send me a postcard...Yours sincerely...give me your answer...). And don't say it doesn't start with DEAR because neither does PS I love YOU.

You're a poor loser JWL.
And you haven't answered my other question. 8)
-
Zipp it, zipp. You're ridiculous. Poorly framed question about "letters". You got more respect for your question than you deserved.
JWL: it's clear you DO know what you're talking about. I agree that this zipp has been stupid.

How many Beatles songs feature the line "1,2,3,4"?
[/quote]
Do you include count-ins?
-
Yes - but I only mean singles and LPs released in the Sixties (NOT Anthology BBC etc)
-
Oh my god. I thought this was going to be a really cool thread and was ready to show you all up. (just playing)
But it turned into a big dissapointment full of fighting and bickering. It's not like you are doing this for money. I think three of you are to blame equally. While some might have been more wrong... always turn the other cheek...laugh and say... It's online. Then pop in your favorite Beatles Album

OK.
If JWL accepts that a count-in qualifies as a line (and I'm not sure he will),
offhand I'd say the answer to your question is four.
-
All Together Now
Kansas City
You Never Give Me Your Money
I Saw Her Standing There (count in)
Taxman (count in)
This is my answer.

Doesnt "A Day in the Life" have 1,2,3,4 (etc,,) with Mal Evans counting down the bars? If so, i'll go with six (I know, i'm a cheater).

She'd probably call me a fat bastard and to get off!
Alright, alright. Take your turn then (I didnt have a question ready anyways).
-
Ok Ssarah and Gents...This one has a few guidelines. The question is this:
How many songs have the word 'Love' in the title?
1st rule - Cannot be variations of the word i.e. All My Loving, She Loves You - do not count. All You Need Is Love, And I Love Her etc. are what I am looking for!
2nd rule - The total number includes Live At The BBC and the Anthology CD's and of course, all the other offically released studio albums.
I will let you know if someone gets it right, and will post the complete list of songs.

Great try, all of the ones you mentioned are right, however, there are a bit more....so think it over, and see if you can come up with the rest. :)
Tip: Pay attention to the 2nd Rule!
JWL
Edit: Actually, lets not count Love of the Loved, because that doesn't appear on any of the albums I mentioned. It was written by Paul, but was given to Cilla Black who recorded and released it.

14?

Zipp is right in the ballpark.....if someone guesses another # besides the one Zipp just guessed, you need to name off the songs, cus otherwise you would just be piggy-backing Zipp. :)

I can only see 15 songs on your list. Can I swear at you for this?
-
oh yea you focker...if you learn to read, I took off Love of the Loved, that would have made it 16.
JWL
P.S. You were still wrong with 14
-
No, JWL.This time I get to swear at you. You're the one who gave the wrong answer by your own rules. You said official albums right from the start. So get it right next time...
-
Well, I knew it was 15 from the start until what's his face named off Love of the Loved...then I started thinking I was wrong until, I remembered the rules I had set up. So I was right in the beginning, but that one answer threw me off, and somehow I got the number 16 stuck in my head.
Anyway, can't anyone make out what John is saying on that song.

I will ask another question .
-
"fun is the one thing that money can't buy" from She's leaving home.
In the song "she said she said" there is a line that goes "I know what it's like to be dead." Who actually said that, and inspired some of the song?
-
Peter Fonda.
-
I'm confused on something here, I could have sworn there was a question in here about what is the other thing money cant' buy (other thanlove of course) Hope that explains why I went in a completely diferent direction.
Anyway, the song is help! (played backwards) and we hear john say "now he uses Marijuana"
What was the first beatles song to featur an outside musician?

Yea, it was during an acid trip. Fonda said that and John sort of flipped out and kicked him out. I'm going by A Hard Day's Write as my reference.
During "Hey Jude" what is profane?
-
When George Harrison swears?
-
thats what im wondering, is it george or john

George says "f***in' hell" at one point.

isn't it john?
-
No it's George.(dixit Lewisohn)
-
i always read it was f*** ell and john said it because he messed up on bass.
-
i think John says "wrong chord" thhen George responds by saying f***ing hell.
New question: What is the full name of the girl in the painting of Julian Lennon that John supposedly based LSD on?
-
Lucy O'Donnell
-
I'm sorry have to tell you all this, but this entire game is void. Back on the question how many songs have "1,2,3,4" in them, no on mentioned "Yer Blues". I guess all the bickering was over nothing.

I guess i could be wrong. I always thought I heard a "4" in there right under John's "Yes, I'm..." I know for a fact he gets to "4" in the Rock and Roll Circus version, but i guess that doesn't count. Well then, bicker on!

The End you're right with Lucy O'Donnell. Are you going to ask a question now?

You can have a good think about this one since I'm off on holiday soon...

I can't say for sure, but all I can think of is that I am the Walrus mentions Edgar Allen Poe, who appears on the sgt. pepper cover.
What's the other one, or if that wasn't what you wanted, what were the other two.

-

Lewis Carroll? I don't know. Am I totally off? I feel like I'm on Jeopardy. Who is Lewis Carroll Alex.

OK, I'll give it to you Maccalvr.
The connection is indeed Lewis Carroll who figures on the Sgt.Pepper sleeve because he wrote Alice In Wonderland which is where Lennon himself says he got the idea for the Walrus (from The Walrus and the Carpenter).Unfortunately he realised later that the walrus wasn't a very nice character, so he should have picked someone else!
Well done and over to you for the next question...
-
Oh no. I'm bad at this. Okay here goes:
What Beatles single was recorded by just John and Paul?
-
The Ballad of John and Yoko.
Who else, apart from the Beatles, sang on one of the Fan Club Beatles records?
-
Tiny Tim 1966 Nowhere Man on Christmas Flexi Single
-
what song brought brian epstien into the beatles lives and who sang it?

-
Come on guys.
When you get the answer you have to ask a question.
Otherwise the quiz stops...
-
I'll continue:

-
How Do You Do it!!! later recorded by Gerry and the Pacemakers

OK here's my question.
For the UK albums released in the sixties, what connection is there between Rubber Soul, Revolver, Abbey Road and Let It Be?
-
I'm sorry, but I don't understand the question. They were all released under the same label...
-
The question is : what makes them different from the other albums?
-
Is it they were the first LPs with the same titles as in America?
-
No, it seems to me that Help and A Hard day's Night had the same titles...

Oh yeah! Silly ole git! ;D
I keep thinking something to do with George compositions... but that doesn't figure either!
-
My other thought was that the album titles are not song titles... then I realised Let It Be IS!
I'm stuck! Anyone else have any ideas?
GREAT question by the way!! ;D
-
I think you have to be really famous to do this kind of thing.
-
Aha! No Band name on the sleeves, right?!
The weird thing was, the first 2 albums by The Rolling Stones didn't carry the band's name on the front cover!!!
Apparently, The Beatles wanted the With The Beatles sleeve to be a just them with no titling whatsoever. EMI vetoed this idea, hence the white band across the top.
Great question though! I reckon you should be allowed to ask another after you gave us such a big clue!! ;D

it has no picture or anything, just plain white and "The Beatles"
