^ Interesting modern choices, man. I liked what I've heard from Tame Impala (they're the ones with the Lennon-sounding vocalist, right?) but haven't checked out their albums. Are they worth looking into? Of Montreal rules, love Satanic Panic In The Attic and Gay Parade. I'll check some of the others out.

Ovi, I have both Tame Impala albums and their EP-I like their music a lot.  If you like Tampe Impala you should check out Temples; similar psychedelic vibe with very melodic, hook laden songs.

Pondering this, but I'll start with three 50s groups.....
1. Johnny Burnette & The Rock 'n' Roll Trio.
2. Gene Vincent & His Blue Caps.
3. The Crickets.

Seriously, I like seeing what everybody else listed but I'm hopeless at making this kind of list.

We'll take The Beatles as a given.....

1. Johnny Burnette & The Rock 'n' Roll Trio
2. Gene Vincent & His Blue Caps
3. The Crickets
4. The Rolling Stones (1963-1969)
5. Love
6. The Pink Floyd (60s)
7. Tyrannosaurus Rex (not T. Rex)
8. The Doors (I can live without the Roadhouse Blues/L.A. Woman stuff)
9. Cliff Richard, yep, the much maligned Cliff, & The Shadows (in terms of look and presentation probably more important to The Beatles than Elvis)

Precious few black people and no women but then groups were mainly a male preserve and they'd be taken into consideration in a list of solo artists or favourite labels (i.e. Dusty, Sharon Tandy, Motown, Stax).

The lead singer leaves me a bit cold, but sounds quite good otherwise. I'll check other of their songs out.

Huh?

This is just a game, Ovi. I believe the bands I mentioned belong to Heaven, or at least to my vision of Heaven.

I don't mind the vocals.  They're nothing great, but to me they kind of fit in with the music as another instrument lending to the atmosphere.  Tame Impala's vocals are kind of similar.

As long as I don't have to listen to Rock n' Roll Heaven by the Righteous Brothers!

That I agree with. Kinda makes me wonder though - are there any 'rock' singers from the last decade or so can be qualified as great, more than just suitable for the style their band plays? Mostly subjective, but from what I've heard I can't think of one right now that I would put in the same category as say, Jarvis Cocker (Pulp), Liam (Oasis) or Jeff Magnum (Neutral Milk Hotel) or Kurt Cobain (all from the 90's).

I think Alex Turner from Arctic Monkeys is pretty good singer.  But yeah, I can't think of other ones off the top of my head.

Robin Pecknold from Fleet Foxes is good singer, but their music is more folk than anything else.

Nothing to be concerned about, Todd.  I didn't post in this thread because it wasn't explained what I was supposed to choose nine bands for.   ;D

The Beatles
The Rolling Stones
Led Zeppelin
The Who

Hmm, that's about it for me for bands that I really love. A heap of ones I like most of their songs, the usual suspects but I don't have their albums

That's a good point Nim. It could be choosing nine bands for a shredder.
