I liked the song Brown Eyed Girl a lot too, so I got one of his albums ("TB Sheets" or something) and I thought it was terrible.

My favorite albums of all time are all Beatles albums (yeah, all of them including the 'weak' ones like Beatles For Sale)

This are some non-Beatle albums that I love (in no particular order):

- Guns N Roses - Use Your Illusion II, AFD
- Nirvana - Nevermind, In Utero
- Soundgarden - Badmotorfinger, Superunknown
- Pearl Jam - Ten
- Chuck Berry - Berry is on Top
- Chris Cornell - Euphoria Morning
- AC/DC - Dirty Deeds, Let there be Rock, Highway to Hell
- John Lennon - Imagine, POB
- Paul McCartney (and Wings) - Band on the Run, Ram, McCartney, Venus & Mars, Flaming Pie, Off the Ground
- George Harrison - All Things Must Pass, Cloud Nine
- Bad Religion - Suffer, New America
- The Offspring - Smash, Ignition, Ixnay on The Hombre
- Pink Floyd - The Wall
- A77aque - El cielo puede esperar
- Neutral Milk Hotel - The Aeroplane over the Sea
- Aerosmith - Toys in the Attic

- Bee Gees: The Record

If I may, my next 10 non-Beatles studio albums, allowing for repeat artists, but not in any order;

Van Morrison: MOONDANCE (ASTRAL WEEKS is very accomplished, but it gives me the creeps, since there are no structured songs, just Spinal Tap-like jazz excursions)
Joni Mitchell: COURT AND SPARK
Steve Winwood: ARC OF A DIVER
Bob Dylan: BLOOD ON THE TRACKS
U2: THE UNFORGETTABLE FIRE; THE JOSHUA TREE
Billy Joel: 52ND STREET
Chicago: CHICAGO II
Moody Blues: SEVENTH SOJOURN
Elton John: ELTON JOHN
honorable mention: Sarah McLachlan: FUMBLING TOWARDS ECSTACY, SURFACING;
                             Fleetwood Mac: FLEETWOOD MAC, RUMOURS, TUSK
                             Ambrosia: AMBROSIA, SOMEWHERE I'VE NEVER TRAVELLED;
                             Al Stewart: YEAR OF THE CAT, TIME PASSAGES
                             The Doors: THE DOORS, L.A. WOMAN

Most surprising observation: that the Rolling Stones have been primarily a singles act.

BTW, since LENNONLEGEND mention Dylan's DESIRE album, if it weren't for the long bore-out track "Joey" it would been my favorite of his, especially since the superb outtake "Abandoned Love" (which eventually appeared on his boxset) could have been substituted.  (George reportedly recorded a version of this track himself which has not been released as of yet; The Beatles' heroes The Everly Brothers also recorded it.)

As for BLONDE ON BLONDE (consistently the critics' favorite), it is not overrated in the way that BORN TO RUN is, nor creepy in the way that ASTRAL WEEKS is, but I still think its reputation is overblown, simply because there is too much filler.  (It was originally a double-lp, although actually about the same length as the preceeding single album BRINGING IT ALL BACK HOME and HIGHWAY 61 REVISITED, and is thus only a single-CD.)  And there is no standout track ala "Like A Rolling Stone."  To my ears, the "White Album" and ALL THINGS MUST PASS are far superior as double albums, although at least BLONDE ON BLONDE is light years above The Rolling Stones' EXILE ON MAIN STREET (another critics' favorite), which only has 5 or 6 good songs, as well as very little variety.

Oh yea, I should have added Paul Simon's THERE GOES RHYMIN' SIMON and Badfinger's STRAIGHT UP to my list.  I'll probably add some more later, if anyone is actually reading this thread....

No order whatsoever.

Beatles | Abbey Road
Beach Boys | Sunflower
Elliott Smith | XO
Tiger Army | II: Power of moonlite
Shelter | Attaining the supreme
No Use For A Name | More betterness!
Lagwagon | Let's talk about feelings
Zoli Band | S/t
Ignite | Family
Gorilla Biscuits | Start today

I know this is an OLD topic to say the least, but I just happened to stumble upon it.  Joost, why is Sunflower on your list and not Pet Sounds? Sunflower is great by the way but since you're one of the Beach Boy experts I was just curious to see your take on it.

Also, Aeroplane over the Sea is awesome. I don't usually like that type of music but I have it on vinyl and it blew my mind.
