Title: Beatles Songs Better in Mono
Post by: danielcelano on February 04, 2012, 04:59:46 AM
I want to show you a list of Beatles songs in mono I like better.

I'll Cry Instead - US Mono because it's longer
Dr. Robert - US Mono because it's longer
I Am The Walrus - US mono because there's a forgotten 4-extra stroke that's leading to "Yellow Matter Custard"
It's All Too Much - 8-Minute Mono Mix

So what do you think?

I think he mono releases sounded better as well, Daniel.  Why don't you re-post the link to the enhanced mono Dr. Robert you made so we can here what John said at the end.

Everything pre-Revolver or Sgt. Pepper is mandatory mono for me.
Everything else is optional.

'If I Fell' especially. I don't like the stereo on that at all.

I agree.  There's too much reverb in the stereo version...

In fact, I like the US mono and stereo mixes of most Beatles songs such as the US stereo mix of Komm Gib Mir Deine Hand because there's a faint chat at 0:00. You must download it on http://www.mediafire.com/?d8akr7mslk11co6 (http://www.mediafire.com/?d8akr7mslk11co6)

Have you ever studied the Oops-versions of the Beatles songs, Daniel? I'm not really into this stuff myself, but I believe it is something you might like. There's bootlegs around, like Oopsology.

Oh wow!!! Never before listened to Mono versions!!!! (Hard to believe eh?) I always thought (naive that I might be  :-[ ) that mono is when there is only the voice and no instruments (Blue Jay Way - with only the voice - is quite eerie!)

I knew what mono is because I'm old but I couldn't understand for the life of me why anyone might prefer it. Check out the mono versions on YouTube, KE. I was amazed at how much better many songs sound and that overall I prefer mono.

Eerie is a good word for it, even with all the tracks! I'll have to look for it with just the vocals when I want to scare myself.  ;)

At the risk of bringing up an old controversy, my vote is for "Baby You're A Rich Man", but only the original mono from the first pressing of the single in July, 1967. And yes, this is the only version where the controversial fade out can be heard clearly. In the words of Dr. Winston O' Boogie, "You should have been there."

She's Leaving Home is better in mono in my opinion.

Since the uncut version of I Am The Walrus found on the US single is better than any other mix, I think it has extra beats leading to "Yellow Matter Custard" but it removes the rhythm track after the first 2 "I'm crying". The first 2 beats were also cut off. Remember when I reconstructed the mono mix by restoring the items from the left stereo channel of I Am The Walrus by creating an even more uncut version?

I remember when you did that, Daniel.  And I downloaded your reconstructed version of I Am The Walrus and included it in my playlist for Magical Mystery Tour.

Welcome back!
