Quiz for the die-hard fans?
« on: September 10, 2009, 08:38:32 PM »

Ok, I'm new here, but I do have several decades worth of loving this great band's music, so I'll try my luck at beating the experts? Hope these haven't been asked before here?

1. What is muttered in the background during final first phase of Hey Jude, as the words "Re-mem-ber, to let her in-to your skin... then you'll be-giiiii-n..." are sung?

2. Why did Lennon change the name of his song "Sexy Sadie" shortly before it's release?

3. Polythene Pam, the mythical character from Abbey Road, was "Killer Diller" in what?

4. What was Ringo referring to when he said, when asked why the Beatles wouldn't perform a concert, that "We don't do Benefits"?

5. Name the two songs that the Beatles played Fuzz Bass on?

6. In the unreleased song "What's the new, Mary Jane?", what does Mary have at the party?

No extra points for being a smartarse!! ;D

Madame Marcos. They didn't show up for breakfest, I don't think they ever really knew about it until the day of. When they saw themselves not showing up for the breakfest on television.

At least according to this website (scroll down to 1968).....

OK - I'll give it a go. Might be too easy though...

1.   On which Beatles song does Mal Evans play trumpet?
2.   Clapper and Algernon – what’s the Beatles link?
3.   John Lennon was named among the 100 Greatest Britons in a BBC poll in 2002. What position was he?
4.   Name Ringo’s three children.
5.   Songwriter Rudy Clark had a song covered by a solo Beatle – what was the song?
6.   What links The Beatles and Elias Howe?

4. Zac, Jason, and Lee
5. Got my mind set on you?
6. The Help! Movie?  ???

That's what I've got now.

2. Roy Kinnear played Algernon in Help! and Clapper in How I Won the War (in which John Lennon played Musketeer Gripweed).

I knew it would be too easy!!
There's only #3 to get now.

The Help! film is the right answer for #6 - at the very end, the film has a dedication to "Elias Howe - inventor of the sewing machine" (or something along those lines). I watched Help! just the other day and noticed it for the first time.

I can tell you that George was #62 in the list of the 100 Greatest Britons, Paul was #19, and poor old Ringo wasn't featured at all.
John WASN'T at #5.

Lennon was 8 wasn't he? I seem to remember he was sandwiched between Elizabeth 1 and Henry VIII, or something like that.

I also remember being surprised that Bono and Bob Geldof were in the list, seeing as they're not British!

Yep - John ended up at #8.
The full list is here...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/100_Greatest_Britons

For those outside the UK who maybe didn't see it, BBC viewers voted for their favourite Briton and then the top ten choices went into a second round, with each person getting an hour-long programme made about them. In each programme a "celebrity" fan put forward their case for why they thought this person should be chosen as the greatest Briton. The Lennon programme was narrated by British actor and comedian Alan Davies.

Here's the link to the programme on YouTube (part 1 of 6)...
BBC Great Britons John Lennon (part 1 of 6)
