Most OVERRATED song
« on: June 16, 2005, 10:31:12 AM »

Funny poll about the most underrated song. I can see the other side of the sun as well. I think there are some songs that might be overrated in the past couple of decades. What do you guys think? Got any other options?

Alright. I see the point. But it's quite difficult, this one. Somehow I always feel that REvolution #9 is overrated ;) (see other threads). Aaargh, guess Lucy. Beautiful song, really, but maybe it has become more a symbol of John's progressive way of writing instead of just a beautiful song.

Yep. That's an overrated one as well. I agree. Still: try to sing along with it. It's not easy and John did a great job.

Yer Blues overrated? If anything, it's underrated.

And out of those, the most overrated song is definately Yesterday. Let It Be also is one, although not included there.

Oh, and I Am The Walrus is definately NOT overrated... Quite a fantastic song, it is.

Arrghh - not another thread like this.

OK, nasty old me says:

How anyone could claim Rev 9 is overrated, when it gets slammed by most fans, is beyond me.

If you say Walrus is overrated, you show you don't understand an important part of the band's work. And you sure don't understand Lennon. BTW, notice I don't say that you have to actually like Walrus, but simply appreciate it. Overrated doesn't some into the picture with Walrus.

Yesterday. It's a great song, but it's not as great as everyone [this is a generalized form of 'everyone', just so no one gets on me about that. o_o;;;] says it is.

And yeah, I'd think Yer Blues is more ... underrated. *blink* Okay.

Since it's often mentioned as one of the two or three greatest of Beatle songs I'd personally pick Yesterday.  Yer Blues shouldn't be on this list and I've never known anyone before who didn't like I Am The Walrus.  But to each their own!

Ha! I thought this would be good for some nice discussions...! Just philosophing: by saying a song is very much underrated, you might just overrate it. I'm not suggesting I don't like song like Yer Blues or I Am The Walrus, and it's not about not understanding or things like that. It's not 'not liking', but about being overrated in some people's opinion. And somebody voted Yer Blues, BTW.

Yer Blues isn't underrated, especially by most of the people here.  For that, I say it's the most overrated, because it doesn't have quite the hook that the rest of the songs have.

I voted for 'Yer Blues' too. Really, I dont know if any of those songs are overrated. I just voted for the song I disliked the most.

ps- Lucy and I Am The Walrus are incredible. Maybe overplayed sometimes, but incredible nontheless.

I picked Yesterday because it's the most overrated Beatles classic of all time & is too mainstream on oldies stations & too predictable which Paul should drop entirely on his upcoming U. S. tour for the more powerful Here Today.

I love Lucy (haha...) and I see what an accomplishment it is. it's an amazing psychedelic piece. But Walrus never appealed to me. I don't know what it is, but it really grates on my nerves.

No! Pay a listen to it and right after it finishes think again. It would work even more if you sang along -- But it's a hard song to sing.

I find In My Life overrated. I also used to think Help! was, but it's so great.

Despite a lot of fans liking it, Yer Blues is on top... Seems to be a matter of loving it or hating it.
