George Harrison: His Greatest Hits
« on: June 24, 2004, 10:15:58 AM »

George is DESPERATELY needing a complete disc, career spanning retrospective....the only one available to most clocks in at around forty minutes and is 50% Beatles cuts. Here's what my ideal track list for a Harrison compilation would be:

1. My Sweet Lord
2. What Is Life
3. Give Me Love (Give Me Peace on Earth)
4. Dark Horse
5. You
6. Crackerbox Palace
7. Blow Away
8. Here Comes the Moon
9. Love Comes to Everyone
10. That's The Way It Goes
11. All Those Years Ago
12. When We Was Fab
13. Cloud 9
14. Got My Mind Set On You
15. Poor Little Girl
16. Cheer Down
17. Stuck Inside A Cloud
18. Any Road

Obviously, my tracklisting wouldn't work too well since there's a lot of slow tempo stuff together and all, but these are the songs that I'd choose, and I think they'd all fit onto a single disc. What do you all think? And post your tracklisting ideas as well.

Yeah, Troppo has it's moments....but I dunno.....most of the Dark Horse stuff is where he lost me. But Cloud 9 was fab.

I think that's an awesome track listing, I love all of the music George did, but that would be a cool CD, I agree with Rowdy, Cloud 9 was fab.

Who knows when we'll actually get a new compilation though, if ever.....that George Harrison anthology sounds interesting....I doubt I'll purchase it though. I loved the Lennon one, but a lot of Harrison's stuff is less involved/less interesting....and hearing demos of it doesn't sound too thrilling to me.

When Blow Away came out, I bought the single and played it non-stop over and over again. Where I lived, there was a small (VERY small) group of us who loved The Beatles; Blow Away always reminds me of sitting in 'our' shed, in the pouring rain listening to that track over and over... just thinking about it has given me goose-pimples!!!!!

I think Isn't It a Pity, Fish on the Sand, Ballad of Sir Frankie Crisp, All Things Must Pass, This is Love, and quite a few others could be on there. However, I would skip over Got My Mind Set... I HATE, HATE, HATE that song. lol!

Oh, I'd add "I'd Have You Anytime" It's one of my favorite George songs, really pretty lyrics.
runforyourlife- Why don't you like Got My Mind Set...? I love that song!

Ringo...I just think the song is kind of...overproduced or something. Its just bugs be me, though I know George had fun doing it. I love the video, though.

I prefer George's music when it has the gorgeous guitar work, melodies, and his voice is more serious for some reason. I just don't care for the "fun" thing here with GMMSOY.

I'd Have You Anytime is easily one of his best....but if we were doing a one disc set, people would want to have more hits from a broader time span....but I'm in agreement that the song is fantastic. Probably in my top five George songs.

Wake Up My Love was always one of my favorites. 'Brainwashed' is so good that it could possibly be a greatest hits compilation by itself. I'm in pretty deep with that album right now.

I think George needs a greatest hits retrospective celebrating his legend which would be much better than his cheap & cheesy 70's greatest hits compilation.

I agree I think he needs a career retrospective not just the Dark Horse years. I think he could get by quite well with a double cd of hits and other standout songs. Though I think it would be a bit difficult for both Capital and Dark Horse to work on such a project.

Exactly. The whole thing about making these lists is being objective about them, not just including your own personal favorites. Here's my list:

1. My Sweet Lord
2. What is Life
3. Give Me Love (Give Me Peace on Earth)
4. Dark Horse
5. Ding Dong; Ding Dong
6. You
7. This Guitar (Can't Keep From Crying)
8. Crackerbox Palace
9. This Song
10. Blow Away
11. All Those Years Ago
12. That's the Way it Goes
13. When We Was Fab
14. This Is Love
15. Got My Mind Set On You
16. Cheer Down
17. Any Road
18. Stuck Inside a Cloud

wow, now would that include reflective liner notes from coleagues looking back, be packaged in a box set and be attractively priced?  If so, I believe that would be a masterpiece.
