I always forget that Jim Morrison's birthday is also on this day. Weird. Anyway, he'd be 65 today. Wonder what he'd look like.

Can't be too sure. After all, he was an alcoholic/had alcoholic tendencies and he struggled with weight problems for most of his life.

umm I was never into their music. strange really. probably because I'm not a woman. I do appreciate Morrison's voice, but I think, you know, he was handsome and very attractive and that's why many loved him. cause he was a beauty ?

I've known lots of guys that were very into the Doors. Their music is pretty unique.

But yeah, him being beautiful didn't hurt. My room was wallpapered with his image for many years. But I did like the music too!

The Doors are great, but isn't it just stupid when people are talking about The Doors when they are talking only about Jim Morrison. I mean how about other band members? they also were enoughly talented to compare with Morrison :)

For sure. Jim wouldn't have gotten very far without Ray, Robby, and John. I mean come on, Robby wrote their biggest hit! But they knew Jim's image was important. In fact, some of them even use it to this day in order to sell records. The other band members that is. It never bothered them that he was the big draw. Use what you can. They knew they had the talent to back it up.

I saw a youtube comment today on a Doors video and it read, "I love The Doors! Who were all the different members?"

I just laughed and thought to myself wow....some "fan" you are.

Meanwhile, I've been on a Doors kick lately. I just bought a Jim Morrison biography called "Break On Through" and it's great so far.

I'm a big Doors fan, too!   I read "Break on Through."  That book and John Densmore's "Riders on the Storm" are my favorites.   I love all of their albums, but I know that not too many people like "Soft Parade."  I think "Wild Child", "Easy Ride" and the "Soft Parade" are great songs.  Jim wanted to be recognized as a poet, but he will always be remembered first and foremost as the front man for the Doors.  And a great one at that!  Speaking of Jim's poetry, here is great video of him doing "Celebration of the Lizard" during their European tour.  He sounds kinda scary!

The book was written by John Densmore.  I think Robbie is the only one who hasn't written something about Jim.  John Densmore doesn't worship Jim like Ray Manzarek does.......and that's one the reasons I liked his book better than Ray's.  John says he understands & appreciates Jim a lot more now, but they didn't get along very well during the Doors years.  John was frustrated by Jim's drinking and unreliability.   When the Doors were playing at the London Fog in L.A. Pam Courson was in the audience.  John noticed her and made a beeline for her table between sets......but the minute Jim walked over and introduced himself it was all over for John.  That incident probably didn't help matters either.
