Best Beatles side project on Apple
« on: September 08, 2007, 12:33:35 AM »

As I said in another post, I'd go w/Mary Hopkin only because there's a less tragic history attached to her compared to Badfinger.
The great loss of Pete Ham to the pop world can't be measured. I always felt he had as much talent for melody as Paul McCartney.
Mary Hopkin's had/has one of the most beautiful voices on record. When Twiggy brought her to Macca's attention in the late 60's, I believe he made his greatest "find". I miss her on the pop scene.

There's a few people you've missed out there Mr. M. Billy Preston for instance - That's the Way God Planned It. The first James Taylor album.

Badfinger were a great criminally underrated act.

Their No Dice, Straight Up & Wish You Were Here albums are well worth finding.

Pete Ham was a songwriting genius with a great heartfelt bluesy vocal & a decent slide guitarist.

It's badfinger for me, i've only recently discovered their albums after
searching hard for them, they should be re-issued!! :o
Pete Ham was a brilliant songwriter & he wrote some beautiful stuff!
Carry On Till Tomorrow is my fav song of their's.
Maybe tomorrow, Day After Day, No Matter What, baby blue,
Shine On.. wow, what great songs!! still very underated in my opinion!
God bless Pete Ham, Tom Evans & of course we recently lost
drummer Mike Gibbins. :'(
But what great music!! :D :)

I didn't miss out on them, I'm well aware of Billy's involvement with them, and of COURSE, JT--he came to Apple after hearing of John & Paul's search for talent for the label, but it wasnt until Peter Asher got more involved marketing Taylor that things got off the ground for him, eventually ending up at Warner Brothers. No, I only mentioned Badfinger & M. H. because they were just my opinion of best Beatle side-projects.

Badfinger for sure! Some really excellent songs. My favorite being 'No Matter What'.
