Hi mate! ERIC "SLOWHAND" CLAPTON, what can be said about this legendary guitarist that hasn't already been said? Clapton is a Blues guitarist only, not a Rock guitarist. Clapton has definitely had his fair share of tragedy in his life through the years. Eric has lost many dear friends along the way, the late great JIMI HENDRIX, the late great STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN and the late great GEORGE HARRISON are just three of them.
THE YARDBIRDS will forever go down in music history and be remembered for producing three of Rock's most legendary guitarists: ERIC "SLOWHAND" CLAPTON, JEFF BECK and JIMMY PAGE. Clapton was gaining so much popularity in England, you would read and hear the slogan "Clapton Is God" everywhere. I am a big fan of EC, I have seen him live 5 times and have never been disappointed. Take care.
Here's one from CREAM, enjoy!

Hi Bobber! What's happening? There are many people that I know that feel the same way you do. What do you think of the late JEFF HEALEY'S version of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps?" Take care.
-
Anyone know how often George pitched up on Eric's albums?
-
I love Eric Clapton. I think his best work during all his career was with Cream. His early guitar playing with the Yardbirds was also important and Layla deserves attention. But I don't know why Clapton reached that "God" status while his replacement in the Yardbirds, Jeff Beck, is almost an obscure cult figure. While Clapton played generic blues with John Mayall & the Blues Breakers, Beck invented Heavy Rock guitar with the Yardbirds. I think Beck was the best and most innovative pre-Hendrix guitarist and his work on Having A Rave Up (1965) is more important than anything Clapton ever did.

What's happening Hombre_de_ningun_lugar! I like your points, you know your music too my friend! JEFF BECK invented the Heavy Rock guitar sound with THE YARDBIRDS, JIMMY PAGE finished it and would take it into THE NEW YARDBIRDS whose name would soon be changed to the mighty LED ZEPPELIN. Take care.

I think him and Hendrix will go down as the 2 major rock guitar players of all time.....he's not the fastest or most intricate by any means but he has got such a feel and fluidity and he has got a major presence on stage...
I love a lot of whet he's done but some Im not keen on, like his post Cream stuff with Delaney & Bonny and Derek & The D's, I think also some of his solo albums were non entities..
Amazingly, Ive never seen him play a bad note, he's played thousands of songs and just seems to hit it right every time, even the 24 night thing at the Albert Hall where he did Rock nights and Blues nights..
I absolutely love Cream and unlike Bobber one of the stand out things on the white album is his work on WMGGW, after I bought it (when it was released) for years I thought it was George because in a way it sounded like George, for me it makes what is a pretty ordinary dour song..
I love Ocean Blvd LP and his From The Cradle album from 91 is what everyone at the Blues Association Im a member off think of as the blueprint for how blues should be played, a monumental blues standards album that would be very very hard to beat ..
heres the virtuoso at his best in 2005.. (wish oh wish I could play slow stuff like this solo at the end)

I've always held Dickey Betts in high esteem too.
-
he ruined While My Guitar Gently Weeps.
ha2ha I dont know about ruined, but it was definately nothing special. I dont like the song anyways, so who gives a rats ass.
I like Clapton, but I dont love him. His solo albums always had too much filler in my opinion, but there were some very solid songs that held my interest. I love his solo's most of the time though. Great feeling without trying to fill a bar with as many notes as a human can possibly play. I've come to the conslusion though that Eric was a hard person to get along with. Thats the way he comes across to me. If you think about all the bands he's been in, nobody liked the guy. Wonder why that is?
-
I'm happy that both versions of While My Guitar Gently Weeps exist today.

I actually know a couple of people that know Eric Todd (from when I lived in England) and Im told that it is exactly the opposite, I can see where your coming from but by all accounts he is a lovely warm guy, I would think that would be true as well being as George loved him as a brother, in fact all the Beatles were kinda in awe of him.
I think he's moved bands a lot because he see's himself as a blues journeyman, play in a band for a while then move on.........I remember him saying that he had to leave Cream because he couldnt take the hate between Bruce & Baker !

Kevin, we were in the center orchestra seats, eight rows in...about 30 feet away from them. I'll never forget that night!
It looked a bit like this...

THE YARDBIRDS will forever go down in music history and be remembered for producing three of Rock's most legendary guitarists: ERIC "SLOWHAND" CLAPTON, JEFF BECK and JIMMY PAGE.
And the very first Yardbirds' lead guitarist was some Anthony "Top" Topham, who was replaced by Clapton before the band recorded anything. How big shoes was this guy on, as three of the greatest guitarists ever took his place.

George Harrison performs on Badge by Cream
12.00pm, Thursday 21 November 1968 (43 years ago)
George Harrison took part in a recording session for the British band Cream on this day, to record the song Badge. It took place at Wally Heider Studios in Los Angeles, with a further overdub at IBC Studios, without Harrison, in December.
Badge was written by Harrison and Eric Clapton. Its title was adopted after Clapton misread Harrison's handwriting on the lyric sheet, which contained the word 'bridge'.
"I helped Eric write Badge you know. Each of them had to come up with a song for that Goodbye Cream album and Eric didn't have his written. We were working across from each other and I was writing the lyrics down and we came to the middle part so I wrote Bridge. Eric read it upside down and cracked up laughing - 'What's BADGE?' he said. After that, Ringo walked in drunk and gave us that line about the swans living in the park."
George Harrison
Badge was produced by Felix Pappalardi, who had worked with Cream since their Disraeli Gears album. The song was credited to Clapton and Harrison on the UK single, but on the Goodbye album it was credited to Clapton alone.
Due to contractual reasons, Harrison was credited as L'Angelo Misterioso on the album. During the 1960s and 1970s it was often hard for artists to perform on songs for groups signed to rival labels, so pseudonyms were commonly used. Clapton received no credit for his guitar solo on While My Guitar Gently Weeps, or for his work on Harrison's 1970 album All Things Must Pass.
"Above all, I would like to acknowledge my old friend Eric Clapton, who played many memorable guitar parts on the album. At that time we weren't 'allowed' by our record companies to acknowledge our presence on each other's albums so he hasn't had a credit for thirty years."
George Harrison
Sleevenotes to All Things Must Pass
Harrison performs rhythm guitar on Badge. Although the arpeggiated guitars that enter midway through the song are similar to parts of Abbey Road, that particular passage was played by Clapton.

if its any consequence Barry I would happily pay $375 x 10 to sit and watch Cream from that position.
So imo you got a once in a lifetime bargain, I think the two venues they did is it...forever.

Hello Goodbye, you are one lucky SOB (Forgive me)! I would have given my left arm to see the CREAM Reunion concert at Madison Square Garden in 2005. However, I do own both original unused Concert tickets from both the Madison Square Garden and Royal Albert Hall concerts. I purchased them from a friend that runs a business in Houston, Texas, he sells genuine original authentic concert tickets. They both cost me a little fortune but they were worth it. Take care.

You've earned the right to rub it in Hello Goodbye! ha2ha I would be too if I saw them live! I remember reading that Jack Bruce was going through Chemotherapy for Cancer at the time, that explains why Jack looked bad and thin.
-
BF, Jack Bruce would occasionally prop himself up against one of those speaker columns, or sit on that high stool you see on stage. Regardless, he performed so well!

I own and have seen the DVD several times, Jack looked very weak, that's why he was sitting on the stool alot. Despite that, Jack proved and showed why he is considered one of the all-time greatest Bass players ever! I still envy you for seeing that concert!

I'm sure your right and I am only assuming of course. I just know that Jim Gordon left Derek & The Dominos because of Clapton, but then again, he turned around and killed his own mother so maybe thats not the best example.
Here's a couple of my favorites that involve Eric or are from Eric-

It's a good thing I don't live in Brisbane. I have a lot of things I have to do before Sunday morning...late today when it becomes tomorrow. ;)

Derek And The Dominos 1970 ...on The Johnny Cash Show
That's a great clip. Johnny was so cool and really put a nice variety of acts on his show from what I've seen on YouTube.

I really enjoyed watching THE JOHNNY CASH SHOW, he really was versatile as far as having different acts with different music styles.

Here's one from CREAM!
Cream Playing Badge at their 2005 Reunion (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gPDZ2M51XDw#ws)
-
They were absolutely brilliant !
Justin & John were well on form, crystal clear sound, what surprised me was they did all old stuff, nothing new, it was 90% from the core 7 albums, like 3 from Days Of Future Past, heres the set list;
ACT 1
THE VOICE
DAY WE MEET AGAIN
SLIDE ZONE
GYPSY
TUESDAY AFTERNOON
LEAN ON ME TONIGHT
NEVER COMES THE DAY
PEAK HOUR
I KNOW YOU’RE OUT THERE SOMEWHERE
STORY IN YOUR EYES
ACT 2
WILDEST DREAMS
ISN’T LIFE STRANGE
THE OTHER SIDE OF LIFE
DRIFTWOOD
HIGHER AND HIGHER
ARE YOU SITTING COMFORTABLY
SINGER IN A ROCK & ROLL BAND
LATE LAMENT
NIGHTS IN WHITE SATIN
QUESTION
------------------- ENCORE---------------------
RIDE MY SEE SAW
'Nights' was superb, huge sound and they got a thunderous applause for that, even Graeme did the Late Lament poetry preceding it and he did Higher & Higher of course, he also announced he was now 70 and made a few jokes about it!
They had a 2nd drummer as well as him who hammered out some great rhythms..
This is the 3rd time Ive seen them, 1st time was in 1969 at Manchester Uni (a long time ago), which was fantastic with the original line up....saw them again in the 80's but didnt enjoy that as it all sounded sort of sequenced and didnt sound Moody Blues enough, last night was like hearing the old MB's :)

Right on mate, I am glad that you had a blast! The set list is excellent as usual. You're definitely inspiring me to want to see THE MOODY BLUES again, I'll be looking for them when they come by either Texas or California. Thanks for the info mate.

Aww...it sounds wonderful. I had my iPod on shuffle during my dinner break at work tonight and the Moody Blues came up like four times in that hour. I was hoping I'd find a report on the concert tonight!

I think they are probably the band that I'd most like to see. I watched one of their concerts on PBS a few years ago and it was amazing.

1) It was 1992. What do you expect?
2) But what a great performance he gave. He didn't have to do another song that night.

I saw the Moody Blues in concert four times during the 90's, three times with symphony orchestras (Long Island and New Jersey Philharmonic Orchestras). But my favorite concert was a small club venue at Caesar's Palace in Atlantic City where we sat at a table stageside.
I'll never forget that!

That's cool Hello Goodbye! I saw THE MOODY BLUES four times as well, three in the 1980's and one in the 1990's. I have to look for all four of them in my shoe boxes. THE MOODY BLUES were a great musical experience to see live. I'm still jealous that you saw CREAM live in 2005. ha2ha

I got to exchange a few words with Justin Hayward between songs at Caesar's. I wish I could remember what I said. I was so starstruck!

One doesn't get the chance to speak to a legend every day, BF.
When I was a resident doing my anesthesia rotation, I was assigned to the OR where Frank Sinatra was about to have some polyps removed from his vocal cords. He looked at me and said to my attending "I don't want no kid putting me to sleep!" I said so long and left the room. ha2ha

He'll bring you back the same day.

Rays voice is brilliant, better than John & Justins imo
a thought entered my head, wonder if he was like George and had to struggle to get tracks on albums and have his songs put on the set list at concerts ?
somebody told that Mike Pinder refused to go on the Octave tour because of this and then left the band

THE MOODY BLUES' music is so unique, there is not a band that sounds like them. One thing that I've noticed about the 1960's bands is that every band had their own unique trademark sound. THE MOODY BLUES had their own unique sound just like THE BEATLES, THE KINKS, THE STONES, FLEETWOOD MAC, THE BEACH BOYS, CREEDENCE CLEARWATER REVIVAL, THE WHO, LED ZEPPELIN, BLACK SABBATH, DEEP PURPLE and CREAM, just to name a few, had their own unique trademark sounds. None of these bands copied each other or sounded like anyone else. That's what makes these bands great and unique. Take care.

actually there is BF, one of my favourite bands of the last 40 or so years is Barclay James Harvest, they sold tons of albums in Germany/Holland/France/Sweden but were totally ignored in theyre native Britain and all other English speaking countries
have a listen;

BARCLAY JAMES HARVEST does sound alot like THE MOODY BLUES, I never thought that any band could ever sound like THE MOODY BLUES! I'm going to have to check this band out, thanks for letting me know about BARCLAY JAMES HARVEST. Take care.

theres a funny story, back in the 70's a music journo called them the poor mans moody blues, John Lees (guitarist) thought this was quite funny and rewrote Nights In White Satin and called it Poor Mans moody Blues
Barclay James Harvest Poor man`s moody blues (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nhkkg1K-6Vk#)
