Ticket to ride: How to pay homage to 50 years of The Beatles in Liverpool

The song says ‘It was 20 years ago today, Sgt Pepper taught the band to play’. But this Friday it’s 50 years since the release of The Beatles’ first record, Love Me Do. To celebrate the anniversary, thousands will gather beside the Mersey, near Liverpool’s Albert Dock, for a Guinness World Record attempt at the biggest singalong, starting a weekend of music and fun.

The Beatles first single, “Love Me Do,” turns 50

The Beatles’ debut tune that launched Britain into the ’60s and helped to ignite a worldwide obsession for the four-man British rock band celebrates its 50th anniversary on October 5, 2012. Though it only peaked at no. 17 on the British charts, the single “Love Me Do” was the rock group’s first hit record when released in October 1962.
