I love that story from The Bangladesh concert, when the crowd enthusiasticly applauded Ravi, only for him to thank them, but that they were only tuning.
Must admit I haven't heard Dark Horse in decades. I really shoud give it another listen.

I was looking at George's solo career on Billboard last night and he was as sussessful as John in terms of chart positions ?
So if he had formed a group be it a suppergroup or just a normal band he would have matched lazy Lennon ? :P ;D

I don't know if he was lazy, I just always figured he ran out of the inner conflict and torment that was the seed for his writing GREAT music.

In Working Class Hero he lashed out at TV as the opiate of the masses, or something like that. Ironic that he wound up the last few years of his life staying in bed all day and watching TV, if what has been written is true.

Was George in the wrong group ?
He had the ability to lead a group of his own and certainly the songs later on . Was he  "Treading Water " in The Beatles, should he have got out in 1967 and put his own band together ?

i think if anything george got lucky in meeting Lennon/McCartney, he was as said before a mediocre guitarist with mediocre song writing skills.

If you listen to most of his big songs with the Beatles it is actually the other members who make those songs, if you listen to the demo of something it is nothing special but put over it maccas great bass line and it makes it, and the same can be said for other tracks be it Clapton....

and as good as atmp was if it hadnt been for the beatles association would it have been what it was/is ?

something a friend pointed out to me is most beatles songs the vocals ,bass and drums are right forward in the mix then the guitars and keyboards are behind them, and i think he is right and i can see why because the most interesting things that went on in beatles songs came from either the vocals, bass or drums.

would the beatles have been improved with a better guitarist though? probably not because then there would have been a 3 way power struggle.

The others are playing along, but who wrote the song?

In my opinion, Here Comes The Sun, Something, and While My Guitar Gently Weeps aren't mediocre songs :)

But I think we're getting a bit off topic (flower)

George in the wrong group !!!

No No No , how can anyone consider The Beatles without George , so he was`nt as a strong song writer as John and Paul but arnt those 2 the greatest song writers ever in pop music [ cant hear any arguements on that bit on here ]
Four lads from Liverpool ruled the world , not 3 of them and that quiet one, is it .
Check out how many young people today who are George fans just oh this Forum , and some old ones to  ;)

That's your opinion and I respect it, but to say he could only write a few good songs a year is ridiculous.
In the Beatles, the Wilburys, and solo, I think he has proven himself as a great song writer.
I feel like I can hear his heart and soul in his music, and that's something I can't say about a lot
of McCartney's music (no matter how much I love it).

The Beatles without any of the four is not The Beatles.
(I just got a bit of Deja Vu from this exact same argument over Ringo)
