I think A Hard Day's Night album was first released on June 26 1964.

You're right. But it wasn't released in the United Kingdom until 2 weeks, even though I'll Cry Instead was previously released in the US as an extended version (AKA the long version).

Miraculous that the quality is so good on the album, considering their hectic schedule and filming at the same time.

So that last sentence probably answers this question, but does anyone know why this album does not contain the usual number of 14 tracks and only has 13 at 30 minutes long? Again, I assume it was due to time constraints. But I wonder if there were any rejects or proposed numbers that didn't make the cut, perhaps a cover tune, or were they emphasizing the "all Lennon/McCartney" songs angle, thereby rejecting that idea? I see no evidence of shelved tracks judging by the period material on Anthology vol 1.
