Here are couple of mine:

I said that's life
(That's life)
And as funny as it may seem
Some people get their kicks stomping on a dream
But I don't let it, let it get me down
'Cause this fine old world, it keeps spinnin' around
I've been a puppet, a pauper, a pirate, a poet, a pawn and a king
I've been up and down and over and out and I know one thing
Each time I find myself flat on my face
I pick myself up and get back in the race

This is one of my favorites; I've seen it in catalogs as a framed print. The author is a 12-year-old girl:
"No boy is worth crying over, and the one who is won't make you cry."
....was just thinking, you could switch "boy" to "girl" and it would be just as true (IMO).

This was printed in the program for my uncle's memorial service on Sunday:
"Words make you think. Music makes you feel. A song makes you feel a thought." Yip Harburg
This perfectly expresses how I feel about music. The fact that it came from the man who wrote the lyrics to all the songs in The Wizard of Oz makes it even better. It's like one last gift from my uncle.

I think that.....'And in the end the love you take is equal to the love you make'.....is pretty good.
Also, the guru figure at the end of The Monkees' film 'Head' (made in '68) came out with:
'The tragedy of your generation, my young friends, is that you may get exactly what you want.'
How prescient is that?
To give just one example the legalization of pot (or certainly the acceptance of its casual use) has resulted in a whole lot of glazed-looking consumers as far as I can see. Just watch one episode of the 'Jeremy Kyle Show' for the evidence!

Apologies to the forum; I felt the need to re-post this given my strong feelings about it. During the worst times of my life, my family (except my kids, but I try not to lean on them because of their youth) has never been there for me. My true friends have.
-
No need to apologize, Kathleen. It appears that your kids have vintaged well for their age.

And we will continue to be here. You are doing the right thing for your kids. I was "leaned on" as a teenager and the older I get the more I realize that I was a really anxious kid a lot of the time because of it.
-
Thanks, Kelley and Barry. Last night was just tough. Having trouble with a particular family member (my sister) who has been holding a years-long grudge even after I have apologized twice for my actions. Thank goodness I have some great friends here in ND, and on this forum, to hold me up when things get so horrible.
I should let my sister's unkind behavior just roll off my back, but I haven't mastered that yet.

I think you've done all that you can. It's up to her now. But if I had the chance to talk to her I would tell her why holding a grudge against a sibling is one of the worst mistakes a person can ever make.

I like that. Speaking of quote attributing, I just saw something really nice on Facebook, attributed to Mother Teresa. I looked it up on quote investigator.com and it turns out it was a college kid in 1968 who wrote it! That bugs me but people don't seem to like it if you point that sort of thing out. LOL

Kelley, I somehow missed your post. What was the quote, if you don't mind sharing it? (And if you'd prefer not to, I certainly understand.)
Another one I like is the (probably overused) "There are three types of lies: lies, damn lies, and statistics." I've seen that one attributed to everyone from Mark Twain to Benjamin Disraeli. I can't seem to pin down a definitive source. I should try investigator.com!
