Are there any Beatles songs better sung by other singers? KEyes has posted a video where Franz Ferdinand sings It Won`t Be Long. I can`t say I like it. In fact, I don`t like their singing at all. What terrible voices and the style is wooden.
-
there is but i can't tell you here... ;D
-
I hate when I hear other people singing Beatle songs.
-
especially the......*shudders* Jonas Brothers! (dead1)
-
twiggy does a great version of in my life look at the muppet thread....
-
Have you heard George Michael singing A Long and Winding Road? A lot of people believe that his version is much better than the Beatles`. It is kind of accepted truth. Though I disagree with this point of view. I`ve listened to him singing the song and NO. Maybe it is because I don`t like him?

Haven't heard it. But I don't like that song anyways. I will see if I can find it, and see if it's any better.
-
I like The Buckinghams version of 'I'll Be Back' better than the Beatles version.
-
I like the Joan Baez version of Let It be (who saw that one coming?), but I don't think it is better than the original.
-
A day or two ago, I listened to a certain Apple, can`t remember her first name, singing Across the Universe. i didn`t like it.
-
Elliot Smith does some nice little covers, as do Yo La Tengo
-
I have a great version of I'm Looking Through You by The Wallflowers :) (from the I Am Sam soundtrack)

What? The Wallflowers? Which album is it? Or only a soundtrack?

I hate most covers, especially by female singers, but I thought Alanis Morissette did an amazing job at singing Dear Prudence. She doesn't have that annoying breathing baby voice most girl singers go for. Her voice is powerful. And it seems like she actually has an appreciation for the music.

As for Ozzy singing In My Life, obviously his voice isnt up to par for that song. But I think he did it because I read somewhere that he is a huge Beatles fan, and I think I may have even read that when he first got into music, he wanted a band like them. Someone correct me if I am wrong.
And I will say I really like Alanis' version of Dear Prudence. I don't care for that song, but I think she did a great job, I enjoyed listening to it!

Ozzy is a huge fan of the Beatles. I saw him on Howard Stern once when Paul was supposed to appear on the show and he met him in the hallway and was just star struck. I tried to find it on youtube, but no luck.

I always thought the Apple Beatles done some great covers. :P

Right now, my all-time favorite Beatles cover is "A Day in the Life" by Ramallah. It's a hardcore/metal version, it's really heavy and it has some disturbing lyrical changes so I bet most of you will hate it... But I think it's amazing how they managed to make it sound natural as a hardcore/metal song while staying relatively faithful to the original version...

^^ His voice is wayyy too whiney, the opening kinda destroyed it for me.
-
freakchic9, thank you! Maroon 5 sings very well, but the timbre of the voice is strange for me to hear on this song. As I can see they covered quite a lot of the Beatles songs! Well done, guys!

Not better, just different.....
Sergio Mendes and Brasil '66 doing Fool On The Hill

-
^^ Sergio Mendes and Brasil '66 did a cover of another Beatles song too... I can't remember which one it was (It's the same one that the Carpenters covered). It on my old computer in the basement, evidently I'm a little too lazy to go down there and look it up
-
^^ I know they also covered Day Tripper, With A Little Help From My Friends and Norwegian Wood. Please let me know what you find on your old computer in the basement.
-
I think that we have Day tripper. I'll have to go on there one of these days and get some of the music off of there (my dad had hundreds of hours of music on there, part of the reason why it crashed!)

I wasn't sure whether to bump this or start a new topic called "Favorite Covers of Beatles Songs". I'll leave that up to the Mod Squad. ;) Anyway, I don't think this is a better version of "In My Life" but it's definitely my favorite cover of it:
JUDY COLLINS - In My Life (1966) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xXIfP-EJx2M#)
-
Yes did a cover of Every Little Thing in they're early line up. I think they missed on it. It's too fast a furious for a happy song but there's some interesting changes.
-
as much as I am not crazy about her stuff, but Anne Murray did a real good version of "You wont see" and I kinda got liking for Elvis' version of "Something".
-
Joan Baez's version of Let It Be is my favourite cover of a Beatles song I think, I feel like she really understood the intent of the song. I tend to like her interpretations of her contemporary's music because she tends to actually try to express the message ofthe song rather than just pay tribute to it like a lot of artists

I like it too and so did John:
"When John Lennon knocked on her dressing room door at the 1974 Grammy Awards, it was to tell Anne that her hit, "You Won't See Me", was his favourite cover version of a Beatles song."

Somebody already said this a few years ago, but I love Eddie Vedder's cover of You've Got To Hide Your Love Away. I remember when I was younger my mom would play the I Am Sam soundtrack in the car and it was my favorite song to listen to.
-
Has anyone heard Cheap Trick's Sgt. Pepper's album? Is it worth blowing my money on?
-
Has anyone heard Cheap Trick's Sgt. Pepper's album? Is it worth blowing my money on?
I havent heard it, but they did do a killer version of Magical Mystery Tour. If its anything like that song, then its probably pretty good.
-
Has anyone heard Cheap Trick's Sgt. Pepper's album? Is it worth blowing my money on?
I haven't heard it either but I do have a Cheap Trick EP with "Day Tripper" on it. I always liked it and since I hadn't heard it in years it was the first thing I played when a got my turntable last summer. So there I was, all excited to hear it again and when it started I thought, "I don't remember the tempo being that fast". As soon as the vocal started I realized that I was playing it on the wrong speed. ;D Even after I corrected that I found that I didn't like it as much as I used to. I guess I'm not the Cheap Trick fan I once was.
-
Since "Here, There and Everywhere" is the song of the week I thought I'd post this one from another band in Brian Epstein's stable.

This YouTube user, http://www.youtube.com/user/MrBeatlesCovers/videos, (http://www.youtube.com/user/MrBeatlesCovers/videos,) has a lot of Beatles covers on his channel. I find this one very strange, especially the ending:

I can only ever think of two Beatles songs done better by someone else.
The first is Billy J. Kramer & The Dakotas' much livelier, tighter version of "Do You Want To Know A Secret?":
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kX3ADWQw2iw# (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kX3ADWQw2iw#)
The second is "Dear Prudence" by Siouxsie & The Banshees who deliver a deliciously creepy rendition which I think eclipses the insipid, wispy original:
