Rubbish!
« on: August 01, 2005, 02:18:27 PM »

Found this: food for Ydoll and others probably:

[face=Sans-Serif]Paul McCartney brands his music as rubbish

Poor old Macca seems to be having a crisis of confidence, branding much of the music produced during his two hundred year career as, quite simply, rubbish. He recalls much of his material with horror, or worse still, complete lack of recollection

I say his hag wife is brain washing him.

Sorry to all you Heather fans.
I never disliked ANY Beatle wife except her.

LOL! Heather isn't even mentioned in this article! Mmm, thinking about that: maybe Yoko told Paul she actually liked Press To Play... Paul probably never disliked any Beatle wife, except her... I think that Paul, looking back, isn't too happy with this kind of stuff. But hey, that was then and this is now. Why not take your ups and downs for granted? It's part of the deal.

I'd like know what source that article came from. I realize that every artist has some lackluster work that they arent crazy about, but i'm just curious as to where Paul said this.

(I aint crazy about Press either, but he has a couple worse than that.)

Paulsluv,
You and I seem to agree a lot!

 ;)

My sister who despises Heather calls her Gap Tooth!
(I know that's terrible, so I just call her Gold Digger!)

Irony: I got ripped the other day for saying what Paul has apparently said himself!

I think this is a good sign.  Paul admits some of his stuff has been subpar.  I think he wants to get back to the McCartney of his glory years.  Maybe the albums since Flaming Pie are working back to that.

He just needs to keep the lyrics real--whatever that means.  Not goofy, not sentimental, not syrupy, not blustery.  But real.  The real Paul McCartney, who, it seems, is at bottom a damned decent guy and talented musician who needs to take himself seriously but not too seriously.

I like the song he did about Lennon on Flaming Pie, because you could tell it was real. Now he needs to choose his subjects and get back to the core of what he was.  I think part of the problem is evident in a quote from a Q magazine interview: "But most of my songs are not specific."

Get specific, Paul.  That's what John was always able to do--to pull out of you.  The Eleanor Rigby's, the Penny Lane's, etc.  Specifics!

I think we all would like to see it happen.  We all want Paul to have one more golden age, just like we want to see Brian Wilson have one, or Dylan, etc.

Personally, I'd like to hear an album where Paul went to town on the bass, like he did in the 65-69 years.

I seriously doubt McCartney ever said this. Unless he's gotten a labotomy or something because this would be completely out of character for the man.

You should never trust these interviews though. Your never getting the whole thing. Its not uncommon for an artist to have his words mixed around, his phrases unfinished, and his sentences butchered to the point of giving them a diffrent meaning for the sake of an interesting story.

Well, I can't make a real judgment because I have yet to read the full article. If he does think that about his work though, he's absolutely bonkers!

I've never heard Paul make excuses about any of his work. As for being REAL, well, when he recorded the solo stuff in question, maybe it was 'real' for him at the time. People change. Their outlook, their inspirations, etc. Some things age well, some don't. Zero is living in the past. Paul isn't in the Beatles anymore. He's writing things from a 63 year old point of view. John wasn't writing 'Beatly' things, neither was George, so why should we expect Paul to try to recapture that? He'd be ripped to shreds either way. Listen to your '65-'69 stuff and let the rest go. Get over it.

But wasn't this thread started because that's exactly what Paul has done (unless the interview is wrong). He started it. :)

I believe the contact.music source was the Mirror which in turn refers to an upcoming Q Magazine interview.

Maybe he enjoys making music. Why would anyone have a problem with that? Why does it have to be anything besides what he wants to write and produce? No one is forced to listen to it or buy it. He does what he does and where's the fault in that? Why, pray tell, do you deign it upon yourself to decide what he's trying to do i.e. be an artist 'again'? Another day, and another post of Pompous pap. As for me, I give a rat's ass if his music is Pop or a metaphysical wonderland, I'm glad he's still doing what he enjoys. We should all be so lucky in life. And if it turns out to be an enjoyable, or in your case, a real and meaningful, listen, then everyone wins. If making troll dolls would have made Picasso happy or if Faulkner wanted to write a Harlequin, I say good for them. If it would have made them happy, so f***ing what? No harm done except to armchair quarterbacks who decides who should do what.
