"Wingspan - Greatest Hits" - any notable omissions
« on: September 19, 2007, 07:45:07 PM »

I noticed that My Brave Face was not included, which was a Top 40 hit for Paul; neither was This One, both released from his 1989 "comeback" album.

Any other notable omissions from this "best of" collection?

Wingspan was only meant to cover the period 1970-1984, so anything from Flowers In The Dirt would be too late.

It was?  Did it say that on the cover?

It was announced when the album came out that it would only be covering that period. The latest song on there is 'No More Lonely Nights', as far as I can tell. There's nothing from Press To Play either. It was meant to 'span' the period from when he went solo, include Wings, and bit more solo after. Hence the title.

Wingspan to me was a disappointment...nearly half of those songs were McCartney solo songs and had nothing to do with Wings.

I agree.. But adding on to that, he could have included some songs from the other members as well. It's annoying to me when people say that Wings was just Paul, but he sure makes it seem that way sometimes.

the research is going great...i've been in contact with a lot of cool people. For example, Colin Allen (Stone the Crows drummer and Jimmy's main song writing partner) and Ricci Martin (Dean Martin's son) offered his memories of Jimmy.

Just replace 'No Other Baby' for 'Dance Tonight' at the end, try to find the single version of 'Spies Like Us' for save some space and you got it man!

I thought Give Ireland back to irish should have been on it. im pretty sure it was a minor hit in the uk (no 14 or something like that).

Jimmy McCulloch fan im very interested to hear about your book. could you give me some info in pm or something please.? I thought jimmy was a brilliant, brilliant guitarist, the best paul ever played with. Shame he didnt stick around too long.

'Give Ireland back to Irish' definitely got airplay in the States. Don't know how well it charted, but those were very political times so peeps were into it.

#16 in the UK, and #21 in the US. He's had less success with other singles. We've discussed this song elsewhere before. It may be that as a protest song it's out of date, or maybe he doesn't totally agree with the politics of it anymore. Could be any number of reasons, but it's never seen the light of day on any of his 'best of' compilations.
