The song you thinking of by Booker T and the MGs is "Green Onions".
My favorite instrumental is "Walk dont run" by The Ventures and "Out of limits" by The Mar-kets. I really love the old Surf instrumentals. If you have'nt heard these songs check them out, its worth your time.

i always get confused. i was lookiig through my playlist and accidentally typed in glass onions. those darn beatles. thanks for noticing.

Thank you. There is a live version of "Cause We've Ended As Lovers" on the 'Secret Policeman's Other Ball' with him and Clapton and it is incredible and needs to be added to my list. That's actually a Stevie Wonder song believe it or not, I'd like to see what the original version sounded like.

thanks for the info. i'll try to get a copy if i can find it. a stevie wonder song? wow, never knew that, but i guess it's like beck to make everything new and original.

Telstar? Really? It has a decent melody, but I've never been a fan of Joe Meek's work. I don't think it aged very well.

Bridge of sighs-Robin Trower
Wild weekend-The rebels

I heard Telstar by The Tornadoes and by The Ventures.........but never heard of Joe Meek. In fact The Tornadoes had the big hit here in the States back in the ealry sixties.

I love the Joe Meek sound.  He really paved the way for the experimentalism of the Beatles, et al.

Here's some of my favorite instrumental albums:
1) Chet Atkins "In Three Dimensions (he plays "Blues in the Night" and "Londonderry Air" and somehow they aren't cheesy);
2) The Ventures "Knock Me Out"--the album where Nokie really started to kick ass and bend strings;
3) Richard Thompson's "Strict Tempo" (better than Fairport--with Dave Mattacks, one of the greatest drummers of all time);
4) Eddie Lang/Carl Kress/Dick McDonough: Pioneers of Jazz--this is way before Charlie Christian but some of this stuff really rocks--the interchange in the guitar duets is amazing--"Feeling My Way" is one of the great 20th C melodies.
