I'm just wondering if "IF I FELL" is a song in which a man talks to a woman. And vice versa?
I mean in the following lyrics:
If I give my heart to you
I must be sure
From the very start
That you would love me more than her
If I trust in you, oh please
Don't run and hide
If I love you too, oh please
Don't hurt my pride like her
>That you would love me more than her
I think the line is equal to "that you would love me more than she loved me".
Some people say that it is "that you would love me more than you loved her."
So the song is about a woman who talks to her loevd man. Does the interpretation make any sense?
>Don't hurt my pride like her
By the same token, I think it means "Don't hurt my pride like she hurt my pride"
I don't agree with some who see the line as "Don't hurt my pride like you hurt her pride".
Lennon called this song "my first attempt at a ballad... it's semi autobiographical, but not consciously."
