what religion are you(sorry if i missed any religions out, please note otherwise)?
i dont believe in any god, therefore i am an athiest(or satainist!!-just kidding).
i can guess dirk is nazi...but what about u guys?
-
I'm officially a catholic. I believe in a higher power and life after death but I have a very strong dislike of all forms of organized religion.
-
i'm officially a catholic as well and am about to receive my confirmation.
i'm also a beatlist though and yes, organized religions annoy me as well. what happened to the old days when religion was about a salvation and not used for selling things.
-
I'm a non denominational Christian who believes in God & prays every night along with being a nice cool guy.
-
im a sinner
-

I think you got your facts wrong here... Ever heard of an indulgence (I hope that's the right translation), or "aflaat" as we call it? It's kind of an entrance ticket to heaven and churches sold them for a whole lot of money in the middle ages.
Also, the catholic churches were behind all the witch burnings and the prosecutions of protestants.
-
yeah you are right, but by 'old days' i meant it as a figurative term to mean when the world wasn't as destructive as it was today and everything was going well. but i guess u're right, th4e catholic church did some pretty stupid things.

I think the world has always been as destructive. Of course not on such a big scale as right now, but that's only because they didn't have the technology yet. This muslims vs. the west thing isn't exactly new, it's been going on ever since the crusades 1000 years ago.
-
i'm not going to talk becuase thn you're jsut going to prove me wrong.
hmmph:(
-
i am a waggist....WE ARE GOD....
-
I'm a Catholic. I go to church every Sunday. I'm about to have my confirmation. I pray.
Does that make me a bad person for following an organized religion? I don't think so. My friend is an atheist, and while I don't care what religion other people are, she was brought up with some very negative views towards Catholics. She says that we are predjudiced. I told her that is a stereotype and a generalization, not to mention a false statement. I asked her how she expects other people to be tolerant if she's not tolerant of them.
Think about that.
-
Think about that??????? blasphemy....you want us to think?no way.....
i am gravitated to people by their merits not on what club they belong too.....unless its my club...lol

Glad to hear you don't discriminate against people PC. :)

-
what do you guys think of mormons?
-
to each their own.i have a forum member who is mormon.she is as sweet a person as anyone else on this planet.
i think it matters not what religion you are but how well you were brought up to respect others and give back to the planet mainly and then society.
do unto others as you would have them do unto you is my favorite parable and indeed is the best to live by.
-
^True that.

i was actually born with bi-lateral club foot.both my feet were turned inwards.they operated on me when i was two and cut my foot open from big toe to top of the ankles and sliced and spliced tendons so the my feet could be turn outwards with the assitance of corrective leg braces.think forrest gump.lol i still have scars but walk ok was active in sports.plus i have weak ankles.my brother similarly afflicted went flat footed.he also had to be cut from big toe to just below the knee caps.i remember thinking as a kid how lucky he was because he was gonna have a mile of scars.lol lifes sure funny sometimes.chuck was his name, but hes gone now r.i.p. chuck.

Great Attitude there PC :)
-
Totally godless I'm afraid. But most religions provide a decent code for us all to get along so I'm happy to abide by them.
-
i'm not going to talk becuase thn you're jsut going to prove me wrong.

Oh, sorry... I didn't mean it that way.

I was j/k...and the webaite about vegetarianism is very niteresting, maybe i'll try at it
-
i think there was a jesus.. but i dont believe that he was the son of god... jesus was just someone who rebeled against the Roman Empire where no one else dared to .. and as far as his little diciples go .. there just a bunch of guys who had the bottle to stand along side jesus and try and fight against the Romans... very much like the IRA.. They dont believe in the british invading the bloved Ireland so therefore they stand tall and fight for what they believe in ...very much what jesus did ....and the bible is just a case of chinese whispers.. one person says something and by the time they come to the end of it .. the whole bloody story is completey different from when it started... at the end of the day jesus was nothing but a plain TERRORIST ! as far as the Romans were conserned.....
i hope i dont offend anyone ... thats just the way i see it ...:)
-
I'm a Luthern Protestant. I'm bad, I haven't been to church in a while. I believe in the power Of Jesus Christ and the holy spirit, despite watching The Exorcist all the time.
-
I think something out there exists, but one almighty god, its a tad easy isn't it? It might be something the human race couldn't even fathom.
-

Then again there might be nothing at all.
Seems to me God had a very busy six days creating the universe and all, took a holiday and never came back
-
Yes, but you have to an open mind about the whole 'God thing'
-
Yes, but you have to an open mind about the whole 'God thing'
But still, what's he/she been doing for the eons since creation? Countless dillions of good, decent people have asked for help, and how many reckon they've been answered. No more than enough to make it a mere coincidence.
And is watching your sick child die some long miserable death compensation for some kind of jolly afterlife?
Sorry-this is a bit heavy isn't it. And I don't for a moment begrudge other people their faith-lots of people seem to find comfort in it. But why is he never there when we need him?
-
Yeah, but maybe thats not his/her/its/whatever! mission. Maybe, like I said, its something we cant understand. Mortality maybe one small marble in the bag..
I dont think there is anything out there, but thats my small-one out of a billion peoples opinion.
Although I think this, you have to keep some sort of an open-mind..
-
:)

Good idea! ;D
-
I was brought up Catholic. So I guess Catholic. Haven't been to church in a while though! Mairi, what name did you pick out? Or don't they do that anymore?
Usually now, we're just given saint's names. Mairi is Gaelic for Mary.
-
hah, nice religions, guys...i wondered what dirks is...he's probably nazi.(id laugh if he was jew)
-
And is watching your sick child die some long miserable death compensation for some kind of jolly afterlife?
You know, my little sister was diagnosed with a brain tumour two years ago, and the only thing that kept me going during that long month of her dying right in front of me was knowing that she would go to a better place, to be with our grandparents, and that when I die (which hopefully won't happen for a while) that I would be with her. I think that God isn't the one who causes all this suffering- He's the one who helps us through the suffering. Nobody knows what Heaven is like, but I think it will be a beautiful place devoid of pain. And that's where I want to go.
God didn't answer my prayers to save Isobel, but He has answered my prayers for many other things. I don't claim to know everything about God, or why things happen, but I have faith, which helps me through hard times.
Sorry for all that depressing philisophical stuff- I'm just stating my beliefs. Not trying to convert anyone or anything like that, I just want to explain why I believe in certain things.
-
How old was she? That's devastating to loose a family member.
-
She was 10. And yeah, it was pretty devastaing. But, it could have been worse. just this October my friend's mother died of a heart attack.
-
No buddhists here on DM's?
-
I'm a Christian that believes in all of the stories. The hard part about it all is that I dont want to preach about my beliefs to other people, but thats just the opposite of how Jesus wants it. But, just as Jesus already knows, i'm a coward and will not spread his name or my beliefs due to unwanted conflict and hopefully he'll accept me nontheless.
-
I'm a christian who believes in God and Jesus, but not all of the stories (namely the evolution v creation debate). Aetheists are more preachy than Christians and yet make Christians out to be the bad guys if they preach. That said I dont preach because faith is a personal thing.
-
fair play to you sunny :)
-
I was born a Christian, but Im not a religious person.
-
:)
I was j/k...and the webaite about vegetarianism is very niteresting, maybe i'll try at it
Oh, one more thing by the way: if you're going to try vegetarism, don't make the mistake that a lot of people make: don't just leave the meat out of your diet, but replace it by a vegetarian alternative.
-
fair play to you sunny :)
OFF SIDES 10 yards penalty lenny.
-
i believe in the elements and the earth. there are metaphysical things in this world.
i am not a believer so to speak.but i do believe mankind to be aimless without faith.faith is what most actions and reactions involve.how would you believe anything without faith?
say the word to yourself.what comes to mind first?religion usually. but is religion necessary for faith?i think not because i have a tremendous amount of faith.
-

thanks for the tip.:)

OFF SIDES 10 yards penalty lenny.
I challenge the ruling on the field; play under review.
-
but i do believe mankind to be aimless without faith.
Never a truer word spoken. Every race/civilisation/tribe has come up with a God(s) of somekind to explain the world, to put things in order. faith is a very handy evolutionary tool.
I just don't think faith=god. I think faith=a need to explain
-

I'm pagan, so I guess other. Pagns worship nature.
around my house pagan is like a curse word. i guess it's because my family is pretty ignorant. they think pagans are the same thing as satanists.:)

My parents do... well, not so much my dad because he's Free Presbyterian... but my mom does. But she's pretty liberal and accepting of others.

Yeah, I find it lucky.
But, people are individual for reasons :)

well i live with my grandparents, so i guess they're ignorant by definition.

It's been the most consistent thing in my life.

dont think so :)

I'm a Christ follower, I think the whole denomination thing is self-contradictory. I mean, people claim to believe that the Bible is the word of God in which states that we should be united(Ephesians 2:14-"For he himself{Jesus} is our peace, who has made the two one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility," and Ephesians 2:19-"Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and aliens, but fellow citizens with God's people and members of God's household,"), yet they divide themselves into different sects? That doesn't make sense.
-
dont think so :)
It's the longest thing thats been around for me...lol
