That's a difficult one. Actually it's not. I plump for MM.

And it looks like no one voted on the Sunday Bloody Sunday one. I'll give this to U2. This goes back to when I liked U2. The Lennon song never grabbed me.

Ok I wonder what the result of this one will be. I'll make it tougher by having three choices:

Thanks for reviving the thread, Kelley! :)

In my opinion, Ringo's camera was the best one. ;)

I remember when I was about 12 and listened to Roxette, as many kids of my age did around those days in the early 90's. But when I got older, I started to prefer older music, so much that I even fell in love with Zombies!

Oops! I forgot that part of the game.

Time for this again!

The late 60's vs the mid 70's:

The original 1974 Sweet version should be in the contest too...

THE Sweet when they were cool.  Sweet when they did bubblegum...

Hey Kelley!  That must've been right up your alley in 1972, huh?

I thought they were a drag.  A well-known drag.  We'd turn the sound down on them and say rude things.   ;D

But The Sweet redeemed themselves with that 1974 version of Fox On The Run.    icon_good

I was actually expecting you to say, "Who's The Sweet?" but then you came up with that version I never knew about. Nice! But I probably wouldn't have preferred that until 11th grade in 1979. :)

This version of the other "Fox on the Run" looks to be right up your alley:

Right!  Anything bluegrass is fine with me!

But here's Scorpions' cover of The Sweet's Fox On The Run.  It's about a real fox chased by hunters for her pelt...

Hey, Du wunderschönes Tier,
Ich komm und helfe Dir,
bist Du mal in Gefahr.

Hey, Sie wollen alle nur Dein Fell,
und wer das hat verkauft es schnell,
ja das ist leider wahr.

Fuchs geh voran
und lauf so schnell Du laufen kannst.
Die Meute die Dich jagt die ist
schon so nah dran.
Fuchsi geh voran.

Interesting. It's a shame, though, that even with five years of German class I still couldn't translate all of those lyrics. I feel that I should give back the Foreign Language Award I got at graduation!

I never heard the one by Barry and the Tamerlanes until now but I like it better. It seems like a transition between the doo wop sound and what was on the horizon. It's fun to find something new, especially from 1963. That was a good year for me. ;) I found this video of it, too, with pictures that I love:

I remember another pair that I'd been thinking of:

Right.  I prefer Barry and The Tamerlanes' I Wonder What You're Doing Tonight also.  Barry is Barry De Vorzon who co-wrote Dreamin' sung by Johnny Burnette...

And, of course, Johnny Burnette was Rocky Burnette's father.

Both are really good songs.  Countless brides and grooms danced to Chicago's Color My World.  But Petula Clark's is my favorite.  I love everything she sings!

Now, both of these songs were in the US Billboard Hot 100 fifteen years apart reaching #4 and #6 respectively...

Two happy songs. The one by Stonewall Jackson has good deep harmonies to make a contrast; but the other by ABBA is excessively happy to me. Thus, I vote for the song from 1959.

The Notorious Beat Brothers vs. The Notorious Byrd Brothers

They all ask WHY:

Well, I guess Stonewall Jackson was trying to cheer things up after this song by The Kingston Trio a year before...

I remember that Waterloo song. The radio station we had in my hometown was still playing it regularly in the 70's. I hated it! We had to wait for night time to get the good radio stations to come in. Maybe that's how I got to be a night owl.
