Title: Favoruite Press Interview Lines/Quotes
Post by: Indica on September 05, 2004, 07:34:03 PM
Just scanning over some books etc, I came to realise that although the Beatles Press-Interviews are well documented on being smart and quick-witted..I never knew how good they actualy were.
Some of the come-backs are just incredible.
Anyone got any favourite Lines...or even Beatle Quotes which you feel deserve a mention.

Press: There's a rumour you own a bank in England, is that correct?

John: No, we just borrow it now and again.

------

Press: Who do you think does the best Beatles songs?

John: Us.

Press: What do you call that haircut of yours?
George: Arthur.

I know everyone has seen this one, but I still love it!

Ringo: "No, I'm a mocker."

Press. "What do you call that collar?"
George: "I collar (call her)."

Here's two that I don't think a lot of people have heard:

1:

Reporter: "TIME magazine put down Pop Music and they referred to Day Tripper about being about a prostitute and Norwegian Wood about being about a lesbian.  Now, I just wanted to know what your intent was when you wrote it and what your feelings are about TIME's opinion about pop music today."

Paul: "We were just trying to write songs about prostitutes and lesbians, that's all."

2:

Paul: "We can't tell you our image.  Our image is what we read in the newspapers, and that's the same as you read them.  We know our real imagine, which is nothing like... our image."

*laughter*

Paul: "Uh... what I meant to say was..."

The second quote is from the same interview. I LOVE that interview. It's so cute. John looks mildly annoyed throughout the whole thing. Especially when one of the reporters makes a joke about him quitting music to pursue a career in comparative religion! (This is right after his Jesus comment).

Here's another interview. John was asked why American's would ask them about Vietnam.
I thought his answer was funny! I think he was still a bit nervous about his religious remarks!

Q: "But why should they ask you about it?"

JOHN: "Because Americans always ask showbiz people what they think... so do the British, you know how it is. But you can't just keep quiet about anything unless your a munk. (jokingly) I'm sorry munks... I didn't mean it! I meant actually..."

PAUL: (laughs)

Q: How about you guys, how do you feel about Ringo being nominated for president?
John: We think he should win, definitely in favor.
George: Yeah.
Q: Would you make part of your cabinet?
Ringo: I

Q: "Did you really use four letter words on the tourists in the Bahamas?"
John: "What we actually said was 'gosh'."
Paul: "We may have also said 'heavens!'"
John: "Couldn't have said that, Paul. More than four letters."
