Strange Images on "Yellow Submarine"
« on: June 21, 2005, 07:15:46 PM »

I don't know if this question has been asked before, so forgive me if I'm ressurecting an old thread.

While I was watching "Yellow Submarine", I noticed that all through the film every single one of the characters did some kind of little hand gesture at least once. They curled all their fingers down, except for the index finger and pinky finger.

Does this mean something? I know these days the gesture is used to mean "rock on" or something like that. Did it have a meaning back in the 60's?

Maybe in the photo Ringo is making an L for Love?
Johns hand in the cartoon looks like Mr Glove.

In the first one Paul is just giving a thumbs up and Ringo's pointing at John. The two hands got mashed together. Do they do that hand thing at some other point? Because they don't seem to be doing it there. But then, the bottom of the pic wont come in for me so I don't know.

I don't think this sign has ever been really explained. It was before the Woodstock era peace sign but seems to give a similar vibe.
Incidentally the Woodstock peace sign when used in World War two was Churchill's V for Victory sign.
