Title: The Birth Of The Beatles
Post by: Mr. Kite on November 24, 2004, 06:23:41 AM
I just got the movie "The Birth Of The Beatles" and I actually liked it for the most part.  I liked that it went further then Backbeat b going to when they went to America even though they skipped over a whole lot but I still enjoyed it.

What does everyone else think?

I have to give it credit because that's what made me a Beatlefan in the first place.

I like it for that reason of course!

I'd like to get it on video and see it again, it's been a long time.

( I believe the Beatles sued Dick Clark over this movie)

Lots of scenes I like, such as John saying it's not rain it's Liverpool crying.

Making toast saying, 'a toast to Lennon'

Having cornflakes in Hamburg with John being mother and pouring the milk.

Brian's explanation of the 4 parts that make up the Beatles.

And I just love the Liverpool scenes!!!!!!!

(sorry if I don't make sense, I just woke up!)

Hi mendips. look on ebay there are a couple of sellers that have the movie, and one that comes to mind is a seller named hellogoodbye.
There are two versions of this film the American version and the European version. The European version has some scenes left out of the American as well as some stronger language and brief nudity

Thanks Rick, you're such an angel!

On my above post I had typed D.I.C.K Clark but it came out as Private Clark!?

That is a trip!

I think I'm gonna get a copy. Treat myself for Christmas!

This whole movie's on youtube now! :)

I first saw this movie in, I think '96.
They showed it on VH1 and I taped and loved it.

A few years later I taped over it for some dumb reason :(.

I'm glad it's on youtube now, I hope some yahoo doesn't delete it.

Rod Culbertson, who played Paul, is really good, and so is Stephen MacKenna, who plays John.
John Altman plays George, and I think he does a good job too.

The death of Stu in this movie used to freak me out, because of the look on his face before he falls.

Mr. Kite, did the Beatles really sue Dick Clark over this movie?
Why?

I haven't thought about this movie since I saw it on TV in '79.  There's a scene where MacKenna looks EXACTLY like Lennon.  It was eerie.  Anyone know the one I'm talking about?  Toward the end, he's in Hard Day's Night mode, with the cap, and he looks straight into the camera, or nearly?  It was weird.

I originally saw this on TV in the mid 80s/early 90s. I think it is pretty good. Pete Best served as a consultant. I think that adds some credibility to it. I found it mostly accurate. I think there are some parts that were "prettied up" for TV. The burning prophylactic part, if I remember, is changed. They made up a cleaner version.

Hehe, it was me who uploaded it :D Glad to know you enjoyed it ;) (and yes, I also hope they don't put it down sometime)
I like that movie and watch it often.
Is a nice movie and well-made, taking on account it was made less than ten years after the Beatles breakup. It may have some mistakes, but it doesn't really matter. After all, I think that making a bioscopic movie of the Beatles without changing and missing some parts is kinda impossible :)
