« on: September 25, 2013, 09:29:27 AM »

Hi,

i am a radio producer for the BBC in Scotland. I am currently trying to track down anyone who attended The Beatles gig in The Carlton Theatre in Kirkcaldy in 1963. I wondered if any forum members had attended or knew anyone who did?

if you could reply on this thread i can drop you a private message with my work email address.

Hi James, welcome to DM's.
This is the only hit Kirkcaldy gave on this particular forum: A SIGNED Beatles concert programme bought for two shillings at a Scottish theatre is expected to fetch up to £6000 at auction.A Daily Record competition winner paid the equivalent of 10p for it at the Carlton Theatre in Kirkcaldy on Sunday, October 6 1963.

The person who is trying to sell this signed program might have been there in 1963.

This was the second of a three-date Scottish mini tour promoted by Albert Bonici. The Beatles performed two shows on this night, each of which was seen by 1,500 people. The other acts on the bill were Houston Wells and The Fortunes.

The concerts were originally to have taken place at the Raith Ballroom in Kirkcaldy. Due to a decision by Brian Epstein that The Beatles would only perform in theatres, the booking was moved to the larger Carlton Theatre.

This was The Beatles' only visit to Kirkcaldy. The Carlton, which stood on Park Road, opened in 1937, and was later used as a bingo hall. It was demolished after a fire in 1972.

This won't add too much to the thread, but I've got a Houston Wells CD and an original 45!
He looked like a cowboy and was produced by Joe Meek.
