The Monks were formed in 1964 by a group of American soldiers based in Germany. They were considered a bit of an anti-Beatles with schtick that included wearing robes with ropes around their necks and, more famously, shaving a monk's bald spot into the top of their head.

Good grief, no, I never saw them before. I guess they weren't quite as influential as The Beatles. ha2ha
