I'm in such emotional anguish right now, just had to get that phrase typed out. I gave up listening to the Beatles for Lent but really feel I need to listen to them, esp. I'll Cry Instead.   :'(

I'm sorry, Kathy.

I gave up not winning the lottery for Lent.  I do it every year.  It never works.

 ha2ha  Thanks for the smile!

I'm sorry, Kathy.

Thank you, Kelley. I just logged in to delete my post. Guess I'll just let it be.

Rejoice!

Chelsea have lost in Europe.

Still, they've got their racism to fall back on and, in fairness, Jose Mourinho has still got his Phil Collins records.....he is the 'chosen one' after all.

This makes me feel a LITTLE better as City faces its (probable) elimination next week.

Yes, it's been snowing here too. When I looked out the window this morning I thought, "Well, this is stupid!'. But then I saw that the snow is going to change to rain shortly after spring officially arrives at 6:45. That's actually pretty clever!

Jeremy Clarkson has finally been sacked from 'Top Gear' (always thought 'Top Gear' was a late 60s Peel show).

Expect within a few weeks news of a Sky contract and a considerably higher wage.
Thatcher's children may be c*** at cinema, television, pop music, theatre, sport etc. etc. but boy can they sniff out a pay cheque.

One of my daughters just told me One Direction fans have started a #cutforzayn movement -- as in, cutting oneself (self-harm) -- to persuade Zayn Malik to rejoin the band. I find that kind of hysteria very unsettling.    :-\

That's scary. It's good that your daughter tells you though.

John Renbourn (ex-Pentangle) has died.
I mention it because figures of the 60s generation are beginning to go at an alarming rate.
Enjoy Paul while you still can, I guess.

Michael Brown from The Left Banke who wrote "Walk Away Renee"  passed away on March 19th.  Another from the 60s.

That's too bad. I was just thinking about this beautiful and touching song.

Yes, I too long for the sixties glory days of the baby boomers, with their homophobia, drug abuse, sexism, racism and abuse. Oh, and thanks to their "I can do what I want" ethos cheers for the legacy of AIDS, rampant consumerism, drug addled one parent families and a decimated environment. Happy days.

I overstate things for effect of course. But do you really feel nothing for modern times (ie post 1969)? Nothing from the Punk Revolution, New Wave, grunge, dance or Britpop? The Clash? New Order? The Smiths? Blur? The Young Ones, Black Adder, The Good Life, Men Behaving Badly etc? (I won't name British movies, as I think they generally suck, whatever the decade)

Could be argued that the sixties as some kind of cultural high water for the UK, but I struggle to accept that other decades were so barren. I hung onto popular culture until about 2000, when it began to confuse and befuddle me. But I'll happily accept that its not it that became boring and irrelevant. It's me.

Definitely sounds like the 80s. You nailed it.

I do appreciate DEVO. They nailed it too. De-evolution is real, and I'm ducking and covering, hoping I'm not around for the very end.

It'll be ugly.

Re: the question about feeling nothing for anything post-'69.

Answer: Absolutely nothing. The 60s is clearly a cultural high water mark.

I can think of absolutely nothing made after '69 that compares to how it had been done before. All those things you listed I can't stand, and don't compare with The Beatles, The Stones, Dylan, Hendrix, Tony Hancock, Steptoe, Python etc.....and since when was little ol' punk a 'Revolution'! - the clash couldn't buy a top 10 hit.

The only exception, which I mentioned before, is the ability (thank the Lord) to access the past, which is far easier than it would have been in 1964.....but then, why would anyone living in 1964 wanted to have accessed the past!

I'll be right on that Jeremy Clarkson story, you see.

Oh agree of the Clarkson thing. It's what all the papers are saying.just don't see following the money as a particularly modern trait.

You hate everything made after 69? Wow.
