He was talking about how John was good with lyrics and Paul was a strong melody writer, and that the two of them envied each others' respective talents. He said that John once told him that no one in Spain would be found whistling 'I Am The Walrus' - meaning that he felt it wasn't a very memorable melody. A sort of implied compliment of Paul's skills.
