Ringo in "fan fracas"

Weds., November 11, 2008

http://uk.news.yahoo.com/8/20081111/ten-ringo-in-fan-fracas-31c8aba.html

Ringo Starr told a fan to "f*ck off" at an award ceremony in Monaco on Sunday night, according to reports.

The former Beatles' legend is said to have upset a woman at the annual event, where he collected a prize for his former band.

The group were winners of the Diamond Award at the event, which saw Beyonce and Coldplay also accepting gongs.

Speaking about the incident involving Starr, a 'source' explained: "A middle-aged woman ran over and threw her arms around him, almost knocking him over.

"Ringo was a bit shocked, he just wanted to get away. After he shouted at her she looked absolutely stunned, but he just walked away."

The drummer recently stunned fans by informing them that he would no longer respond to their letters and would instead bin all correspondence.

Oh, Ringo.  After his Liverpool comments and his fan mail video, this certainly won't help his popularity.  I don't blame him for being ticked off at that fan who ran up and hugged him--it was an invasion of his personal space and she should've been more considerate.  But Ringo needs to watch how he carries himself publicly, since he is a celebrity and these negative PR stories will get repeated ad nauseum in the news...   :-/ :-/ :-/  I guess this has not been his year.

I think so: this is the second blow-up from him in the past month or so. Something's gone wrong.

Just like the presumptuous fan mail he's had, I think this was another invasion of personal space, and taking a bloomin' liberty. Where do people get off with all this 'he belongs to me, I'm his biggest fan' nonsense? If these people were real fans, they wouldn't be expecting a guy of retirement age to be signing and sending stuff back or assuming he'll be thrilled by an unasked for hug. I'm hopping mad for poor old Ringo. Perhaps something is wrong, as everyone is saying.

But on the other hand, he has provided my household with a great new phrase. Only the other day my husband warned me with peace and love that he needed another shirt ironed!! So much more palatable than saying 'please'!

In Ringo's defense, I would be upset if someone hugged me that I did not know and say it was ok.  I mean someone in his position, he needs to look out for his safety also.

Oh, I completely agree. If I were run over by a middle aged woman, screaming my name and trying to do whatever to me, I would have told her to f*** off as well.
