« on: February 27, 2011, 10:17:04 PM »

It's true that the longer version of I Am The Walrus with extra stroke break was never released anywhere. Right, guys?

It was released on The Beatles Rarities album (1980)...

Side one

1."Love Me Do"
Mono, original UK single on Parlophone 45-R4949 with Ringo Starr on drums and no tambourine; now available on Past Masters
2."Misery"
Stereo, previously issued on Vee-Jay LP Introducing... The Beatles
3."There's a Place"
Stereo, previously issued on Vee Jay LP Introducing... The Beatles
4."Sie Liebt Dich"
Stereo, previously released only as a mono single in the US on Swan Records; now available on Past Masters
5."And I Love Her"
Stereo, alternate version with six-bar ending; originally issued in Germany
6."Help!"
Mono, with different vocals than the stereo LP
7."I'm Only Sleeping"
Stereo, final UK Revolver mix (an early mix was released in the US)
8."I Am the Walrus"
Stereo, new mix compiled from US single and UK album mixes: six-bar intro and extra beats before the "Yellow matter custard" verse; not available on CD

Side two

1."Penny Lane"
Stereo, new version compiled from the German true stereo version with the US promotional mono version's extra piccolo trumpet solo added onto the ending
2."Helter Skelter"
Mono, ends at first fadeout without Ringo Starr's "blisters" outburst (first pressings of the album erroneously attribute the statement to John Lennon)[1]
3."Don't Pass Me By" (Starkey)
Mono, sped-up version with different violin in places
4."The Inner Light" (Harrison)
Mono, previously released as the B-side of "Lady Madonna"; now available on Past Masters
5."Across the Universe"
Stereo, original version from No One's Gonna Change Our World, a British compilation album made for the World Wildlife Fund; now available on Past Masters
6."You Know My Name (Look Up the Number)"
Mono, previously released as the B-side of "Let It Be"; now available on Past Masters
7."Sgt. Pepper Inner Groove"
Stereo, a piece that ended the original British release of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band but was not included on the American version of the album. It consists of a few seconds of 15 kilohertz tone (similar to a dog whistle) followed by two seconds of laughter and noise on the runout groove. The tone is not included on this album but the laughter and noise are featured just before the actual runout groove. It has since been restored, including the high-pitch tone, for all worldwide CD versions of Sgt. Pepper.

Do you think the longer version of I Am The Walrus was also on The Beatles Box like this one?

That reminds me. I want to show you something.

An alternate mix containing an untrimmed intro as well as the extra beats on the 45 version just before the 'yellow matter custard' line making this the longest complete account of the song.

I think this longer version is located in various bootlegs such as The Beatles Mythology, 1967, Volume 3 (Disc 2) except the orchestra, backing vocals and the King Lear radio are removed.

The Beatles Rarities version I posted has the untrimmed intro and extra beats prior to "yellow matter custard."

Yes. Have a listen. Obviously there was an edit made later. Beatles Anomalies says this of the regular recording:
1:33-1:35
Edit as John comes in with "yellow matter custard". Listen to the Anthology version of this take, John's voice cracked on the last "I'm crying" (hence, after editing, it sounds like "I'm cry"). The first attempt at "Yellow matter custard" also fails. The take was edited to cover this. Listen to the orchestra (right channel) and you can hear the edit clearly. There is also some drum editing.

It would be nice if that extra bar was mixed for stereo since it was deleted from every version such as the Love Soundtrack and The Beatles: Rock Band video game.

It would be nice if that extra 4-stroke bar on I Am The Walrus was mixed for stereo since it was deleted from every version such as the Love Soundtrack and The Beatles Rock Band video game.

Since the King Lear broadcast on I Am the Walrus is now in stereo, it would be nice if an extra stroke bar before the Matter Custard part was mixed for true stereo instead of mono since it was deleted from every version such as the Love soundtrack and The Beatles Rock Band video game.

Do you know what I wish? I wish the six stroke intro of I Am The Walrus was mixed for mono. And I wish the basic track that has organ, bass, drums and tambourine that comes after the first and second "I'm Crying" was mixed for mono.

Since the original true stereo mix of I Am The Walrus called Remix 6 was made on November 6 1967, why couldn't it be released in the United Kingdom? And another thing, why couldn't the untrimmed six-stroke intro be heard in mono?

I Am The Walrus - Extra Stroke in Stereo
« Reply #17 on: January 14, 2012, 04:14:59 PM »

It would take years to make an extra stroke before "Yellow Matter Custard" on I Am The Walrus in true stereo, even with help and releasing.

The basic version of the track that is included on Anthology 2 (take 16 without overdubs) includes both the extended intro and the extra bit before Yellow Matter Custard
