It would be interesting to know how Paul would rank his own albums. As far as I know, he has never done such a thing.

Ram is awesome. The guy is just creativity gone wild. Listening to it, it's clear to me that it was Paul that guided the Beatles' studio sound in their mid- to  later years. Made better by John, George, and Ringo to be sure ... but to my ears Paul was the driving force.

Sorry for the heresy if there is any here ... I am still a John first kind of fan ... based mainly on his pre-drug years and influence. The leader of the band ... what else is there to say?

I've always thought paul was better musically when he went solo, & i
think he's such a fascinating songwriter. There's so much going on in his
songs, Ram just shows it & i think he's new one, memory almost full, is very
interesting. I can imagine it not being everyone's cup of tea but i always think
on first listens, it takes time to grow on you. Ram certaintly did to me!

These are 3 10 out of 10 albums.

The truthful answer is it depends what mood I'm in.

If you could prune George's album then it would be an absolute killer album.

John's album is a challenging listen but contains a better standard of songs than Imagine yet is let down by a couple of the lesser tracks due to a lack of production.

But for sheer accessibility it has to Macca's Ram.

there's NO contest---ATMP !!! (now if John's "Imagine" were in the running here, it MIGHT give it a run for it's money...but it ISN'T, so ATMP all the way!!!!)

'All Things Must Pass' has tracks that far surpass anything offered on the others. Some are less interesting for me, though. Still, those few winners just soar and can't be touched in comparison.

Honorbale mention: 'Ram'

It's just occurred to me, why Ram? Though not their first albums away from the others, POB and ATMP are considered to be solo debuts. Ram is McCartney's second album, and not even released in the same year as the others. So it should be between ATMP, POB, and McCartney. In which case, no contest: All Things Must Pass.

One more vote for All Things Must Pass: this is the record in which George shows he's John's and Paul's equal.  8)

I like all three of these albums.  George was a great Beatle and had a great solo career.  However, I prefer McCartney and Lennon's solo careers slightly more.  However, based on these three great LPs alone, I have to go with ATMP.  George was a great writer and had a collection of truly great songs dying to be heard.  Really awesome stuff in this sprawling collection-  a lot of which I think is up to Beatle-par.  ATMP may be my all-time fave solo-Beatle album.

I prefer Plastic Ono Band. Where Harrison shows he's equal to John and Paul with All Things Must Pass,  save for the speed of composing, John's album is such a pure state of openness. It is so self-revealing and open. It is just great!

Love all three, of course, but someone's point about pruning ATMP -- yes!!!  First thing to go -- Phil Spector.

I love Ram -- always have.  To me, it's a freaking GARDEN of musical ideas.  John would often criticize segments of songs as being unfinished ideas, but Macca treats them like movements.  3 Legs and Uncle Albert.  Amazing.

I think it's one of the richest collection of melodies ever committed to vinyl.  Better than Pet Sounds.  (Oh heresy!)

Hugs, wal
