Time for a new quiz
« on: October 05, 2004, 02:09:19 AM »

Some of these questions are courtesy of another Beatles trivia site. Plus, I've posted them on other sites. So if you know the site, no cheating. Otherwise, good luck:

1. What song from the musical "The Music Man" did the Beatles cover?

2. What three songs of Carl Perkins did the Beatles cover?

3. What three songs of Larry Williams did the Beatles cover?

4.  What song was covered by both the Beatles and Herb Albert & the Tijuana Brass?

5.  What song was covered by both the Beatles and the Beach Boys?

6.  What song was covered by both the Beatles and Electric Light Orchestra?

7.  What Beatles song holds the record as being the most covered song of all-time with over 2,500 known renditions?

8.  What was Frank Sinatra's favorite Lennon-McCartney song?

9.  Though not exactly a cover tune, George Martin wanted the Beatles's first single to be "How do you do it?"  They rejected that, but Gerry and the Pacemakers found success with it instead.  Question: Who composed that song?

3.Well DIzzy Miss Lizzy is one I think ---- IT IS, BUT THERE ARE TWO OTHERS.  COME ON; TAKE A GUESS.  HERE'S A HINT:  LENNON SANG LEAD ON ALL THREE.

OKAY GANG, THAT WASN'T TOO BAD, BUT THERE ARE STILL SEVERAL QUESTIONS REMAINING:

3. What three songs of Larry Williams did the Beatles cover?  (ONE TUNE WAS ALREADY GUESSED --- DIZZY MISS LIZZIE.  WHAT ARE THE OTHER TWO?)

4.  What song was covered by both the Beatles and Herb Albert & the Tijuana Brass?

6.  What song was covered by both the Beatles and Electric Light Orchestra?

9.  Though not exactly a cover tune, George Martin wanted the Beatles's first single to be "How do you do it?"  They rejected that, but Gerry and the Pacemakers found success with it instead.  Question: Who composed that song?

Tim, you're spot on -- here's the source that backs you up:

http://www.marstalent.com/bio_gerry_marsden.htm

Among the highlights on Marsden's bio is this quote about a little-known moment in rock history:

In 1961 Les Maguire (ex The Undertakers) joined the band playing piano and saxophone. With a repertoire of nearly 300 songs the bands was a Rhythm and blues influenced rock band. On October 19th 1961 Gerry & The Pacemakers combined with the Beatles for a one off gig at Litherland Town Hall as "The Beatmakers".
