In my opinion I think 1969. I think they were all cool as hell with their long hair, long sideburns and beards.

I can't choose.
I say they were born cool and they stay that way! ;D

The very early Beatles, say from 1961.
-
cavern days (fool) and of course the general early days...hell they were always cool!
-
cavern days (fool)
Umm how am I a fool? I just didn't include anything before 1963. We're all entitled to our own opinion, I have no problem that you think that their Cavern days were the coolest, you could have simply replied with "Cavern days and of course the general early days...hell they were always cool! You should have incliuded it" But you had to be a prick and call me a fool. If you're gonna reply to a thread, keep your insult crap off of it....
-
1967. I like the music, and their attitudes... I just like that whole period in the sixties.

I suppose. You posted a picture of you and a chick. What's up? I thought you were as gay as a picnic basket.
-
I hate to be a too blind faithful, if that's even a phrase, but I think at every level they were the coolest. Badasses in Hamburg, having to downshift into Moptops but setting the bar and on and on--it was like a hurricane that just picks up speed. Even when they were at their 'worst', no one could touch them.
-

mmmmmmmmmm whats that got to do with the conversation? you silly boy, and what on earth was it that made you think i was gay darling?

1967, Sgt. Pepper/Magical Mystery Tour.
-
MMT belongs to the peace lovin' era I think ;D
-
I loved all their earley interviews with their witty answers ;D
-
The late 60's is my favorite era of the band, when they were the coolest, with their longer hair, more outspoken atttitude & more ballsy rock & roll. I thought they looked cool during the early sixties as well, of course, especially at Shea, but they looked bad ass before the breakup.

Rubber Soul era - 65/66

i think this era was the coolest...(http://students.ceid.upatras.gr/~pirli/beatles/images/hamburg.jpg)

It's too bad there isn't any footage of them performing, back in their leather days with Pete on drums, only pictures & the Star Club recordings, because I would like to see it, if it exist.
-
yeah it is sad...that's when they were struggling to win an audience..it must have been quite a show....i hope someday something surfaces but face it personal cameras back then were sh*tty and what would we have but sh*tty recordings...until then we can only imagine what it must have been like...that makes it a magical era...

1966
Yes.

And definitely not 1969:

-
I agree with 65/66.
But that photo is so cool, in its own way. ^ :)
-
What about the early image with leather jackets and rockabilly hair styles? They look pretty cool in that monochrome pic with all five of them looking 'bad' holding their instruments.
-
I am totally choked for an answer. Put me down as another for, "Always cool!"
-
Other 1963-1966. Paul, don't even get me started. George made unibrows so cute! Ringo had a baby face and John looked so much fuller and good looking. I didn't like it when he lost all the weight because well he just looked ill. :-/
-
They were always cool. But I chose "grumpy long haired etc"
I just love those long haired hippies ::)

yes...
-
Beatles were the Coolest no doubt in the time of the Germany Hamburge sets!
The Hamburge tapes I got off the masters Like Red sails in the sunset--Hippie shake ect!
This was so hot--fast & clean or Raw Beatles unpolished by Epstiens desire for suits & pretty boy look!
They ahd fun & Rocked!
Sure Epstein took them far--but they lost the fun when he came in!
Many deniles--many cold nights & long days playing for less now!
They had to pay for gass-Brian---demos ect!
-
I think you're all nuts, they were coolest in 68-69, doesn't get much cooler than The White Album photos
-
65/66.
but george was absolutely beautiful in 1964. wow.
-
Their peak of popularity was 63 - 66, but they became insanely popular again when the CDs were first released in the 1980s.
-
164-1965. I do like the Magical Mystery Tour era as well for the music, but besides from the havoc of Beatlemania, they were really enjoying what they were doing.
-
1965-1966 for me
-
Welcome ewomack, enjoy the forums! :)
-
1965/1966
-
From those choices: 1969.
-
1965-1966 considering the choices given in the poll.
They were real cool before Brian Epstein found them

They were, i would have loved to have seen them live in Hamburg or the Cavern before they had a
rcord contact or became famous! :)

Something tells me you would not be alone with that thought!

It seems that djinn had filmed them in the Indra Club.

It was possible. But my guess is that he wasn't there. And if he was, he surely forgot to bring his camera.

He'd have been all of 9 years old at the time!!
-
He'd have been all of 9 years old at the time!!
Even then he was an army veteran and had already seen The Beatles at Shea Stadium three times.
-
They looked cool as hippies heheheh.
-
They were extremely 'cool' in the Rain/Paperback Writer era
Not Let it Be (too hairy and scary) although they are ridiculously cool on that rooftop!
Perhaps coolest as hippy sgt. pepper people though. They could all carry off hippy clothes well- especially George :) And their music was particularly strong at this point I reckon

Maybe sewi was thinking in some of these images:

Wow they look happy. But I guess this was a period with a lot of problems for them.

Surely that the had problems but I don't believe that too many as we all have been told.

I don't really think the posed photographs can be used as visual aids to emphasise the breakup within the band.
Many of the band photo sessions have images of the straight faced Beatles. The 'look' was a style that gave the impression of the band being cool and moody - a vogue trend of the mid to late sixties.
We all know the Beatles were loosing interest with each other - but I think publicity photographs aren't really a reliable source to use ...

I agree
-
Me too! To me the coolest Beatles were the 1967 Beatles, definitely!
-
as someone said before definitly the paperback writer/rain through to mmt period they were iconic the splhcb suits win it by a mile for me
-
i think this era was the coolest...(http://students.ceid.upatras.gr/~pirli/beatles/images/hamburg.jpg)
Hey pc31, it depends on what phase I'm in, but right now I am definitely there also!
-
I think that the Beatles were always cool, no matter what phase they were in. They were cool with the leather jackets of the early days, the moptops and suits, the psycadelic stuff, and the long hair hippie stuff too. They changed a ton throughout the years, but were always cool for their clothing and everything else about them.
-
I love how they looked in 1965 and 1966 the hair and everything, John looked good with abit of meat on him but I'm fascinated with the hamburg period, the scruffy teddy boy look and I absolutly love the psychedelic beatles and the cute moptops in suits. I don't really like the 68-69 beatle look because John was too thin and that beard so didn't suit him.
I would have loved to see them in Hamburg or in the cavern. to see that energy on stage and to see them having fun and to be able to actually hear them would have been great. but to see them at shea staduim would have been great too and be part of the crowd and the craziness. I seriously can't choose which is the coolest, they all are! *sigh* I was born in the wrong place at the wrong time.
I think they look super cool in this photo of their first trip to hamburg, taken by Astrid I belive.

Perhaps. Look at it this way: we are keeping the legacy alive, and that's important, too! We could do with some major coolness in our society right now. :)

I couldn't agree more!
-
1964-1967 were the coolest. '64 and '65 they looked awesome with their suits and witty remarks. But in '66 they looked bad ass with their longer hair/sideburns and awesome promo for "Paperback Writer/Rain". The winter/spring of '67 was cool especially during Sgt. Pepper with the moustaches and cool looking clothes. But I also have to admit the White Album time was pretty cool. The photos inside are memorable and the look "bad."
-
Great summary of the time periods, dcowboys107! Yeah, they were everything cool to cute to bad. How did they manage it? :)
-
It seems that djinn had filmed them in the Indra Club.
Reread a lot of djinn's posts last night. Had a laugh!
-
1966 for me, by a mile. It was the only time they looked their coolest together. Later, each of them would have a different hair style or a moustache or beard. Although some pics from 1968, on their crazy day out they look tremendous.
For instance, I reckon Paul and Ringo look so cool circa Abbey Road but John looks a bit scruffy, lol.
The four coolest people in history for me. And the best thing about that? They didn't even have to TRY and be cool. It was all natural.
