Post by: on February 07, 2005, 01:37:23 AM
Did any of you guys catch Paul McCartney at the super bowl? If you didnt, he played:

Drive My Car
Get Back

Hey Jude was too short

He only had 12 minutes.  4 songs in 12 minutes was not bad.  I wondered if he was going to shorten it, and blessedly he did.  I for one am sick of the song.

He usually plays Hey Jude at the end of all hsi concerts.

Something for the fans to wave their lighters to.

Blasphemy!!!

Not really.  I think a majority of those who have caught most of Paul's live acts for nearly 20 years have grown weary not only of the song but the whole 'you were great' canned bit he seems unable to drop.

^There is no better outro to stick in your head and sing along to. It was always gonna be that one. I did'nt get to se it but I am relieved no-one cheesy seemed to have got up there with him...Nice.

I was kidding! I know he always does the "You were great" thing. That's kinda corny. But I still just love that song. Although I had been watching him sing it on the David Frost show for a couple of weeks before this and it really goes to show how mechanical it's become for him. Not much emotion. On the Frost show he sings with such passion. I guess after you sing a song a million and one times it becomes a bit hard to get that same feel you once had.

Absolutely.  Sorry I missed the joke.  It's the biggest Beatle song so I imagine he feels he has to do it, tho if it had been John's he probably wouldn't have felt so inclined.  It's just old.  So many other songs he could do, but then as a performer he wants to please the crowd.  That's our Paulie.

I don't mind when he sings it, it's my favorite song. But his vocals are just not what they used to be.

I swear I saw a tear in his eye when he was playing Hey Jude. I'm sure it was at 'the movement you need is on your shoulder'. He said he always gets emotional when playing that bit, because of John.

Really?  On the Super Bowl?  Odd.

Since he dropped that verse due to time limits.

Yeah, he didn't sing that verse. And he didn't look very emotional to me. More like he was waiting to get it over with. I keep hearing mixed reviews about his performance on the radio. I like the way one guy put it: Everyone likes the Beatles! Well okay, there's a couple. But they're disturbed.
