Mendips, I love the BBC album it was so cool to hear all the covers and early Beatle material. I also picked up a 10 disc bootleg set that is incredible. It has ALL the BBC material and all the Beatle chatter. One of the coolest things is a version of "Tie me kangaroo down sport" done with Rolf Harris. Capitol/EMI could learn alot from this set.

Thanks for replying, Rick.

I'm partial to early Beatles music, I don't know why! I love it all of course but I've got a tender feeling for the early stuff!

I like the album as well buts its unfortunate that alot of the shows come from recorded broadcasts off radio from a fellow on a personal recorder. The BBC didnt record all the early appearances the Beatles did for them. Besides that it's quite a wonderful album and like the rest here the covers are great my favorite are Some Other Guy and To Know Her Is To Love Her.

It's a brilliant album, but there were some strange choices of tracks such as a version of A Hard Day's Night with the guitar/piano solo taken directly from the record! There was a completely live version they could have used instead.

One thing which annoys me is that the tracks cross-fade into one another - ie no gaps. This means if you only want to listen to one particualr track it ends very abruptly.

Apart from that - awesome! Soldier of love and I'm Gonna Sit Right Down And Cry (Over You) are particular favourites.

Absolutely! Its really gives you insight as to what their Hamburg shows and other early concerts(due to the material on it) were like and of good sound quality. It also give you the live recordings with out the screams. What i mean by that is the songs were recorded live at the BBC studios without instrument overdubs and multitracked voices, so you get an idea of what they sounded like live without everyone screaming. Its also cool to hear all those early cover versions and original material.

It's great Album. It proves what a Great band the Beatles were.

I like everything about the BBC recordings. They were lightyears ahead of their time, but still endured, rather kicked butt and took names in comparison with ANY of their peers........in the time/space in which they found themselves.

I really like the cornball shyt too. The bit with the Brit Comdien Duo where they all sang 'Moonlite Bay' together. Funny stuff.

This lp allows us to hear the Early Beatles before the "polish" was added! They sound like a good house band on a lot of songs and if I had my crystal ball polished up I would have invested in Capitol stock!

I like the cover of "Youngblood" and the chatter they have between some of the songs.  The only drawback for me is there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason as to track order.  Why not put them in chronological order to give some understanding of musical progression.  A worthy buy for anyone who already has all the other CDs, and superior to Anthology 1.

I'm not sure if you want to get back to the forums but, anyway, ... The End uploaded them in bootlegforums some weeks ago. You need a password tho, so if you read this contact with junniorsfarm or The End by PM in order to get the password.

I just got a hold of these CDs today and I'm having so much fun listening to them. It's great to discover something new after listening to the Beatles my whole life. (And I'm really, really old. ;))

I'm very happy with the set. But somehow it was frustrating too. I had been collecting the songs from the BBC sessions for years, especially the ones that had never been released officially before, like Clarabella and Soldier Of Love. And suddenly it was all released, well, most of it. I found it strange that Lend Me Your Comb was not included (came later with the Anthology set) and there still songs that are not released. My collection is serving me well on that particular point.

Live At The BBC was a test for the Anthology. EMI wanted to put some "unreleased" material out to see how the public would respond. When the response was overwhelming, the go-aheads were given to work on the "Anthology" project.

I am thankful that they released this album. I have since acquired much more BBC stuff. I believe I have at least most of what is there. Nice to have a "official set" though.
