Title: Pictures of The Beatles in the 40's and 50's

I'm trying to collect as many pictures of The Beatles in the 1950's and earlier as possible. There are a lot of pictures from 1960 onwards, but not so much that predate 1960. There are some pictures here. Can you give me a hand?

I believe that should be Arthur Kelly instead of Jim. This picture is also described in Mark Lewisohn's Tune In.

I think this pretty interesting. It is stated that the only known picture of John and his mother Julia together is this one, which is well-known:

Could very well be Julia. But is the baby on her arm John? Or maybe one of his sisters?

That  pic of  the  pupils  at  Johns  art   college...

would be  great for them to have that pic on the  mantle shelf...

I believe it's one of John's cousins. It's in Anthology, I'll have a look.

No, you're wrong, it's a photomontage. It's a very nice work of art but it's not from the fifties. Here's the artist's comment :

"This is my new photoshop piece based on Strawberry Fields Forever .... I've seen the old photo of Lennon on his bike and thought of placing him outside the gate in Liverpool and this is the result .... from numerous photo sources (ie: different head, clothes and even the bike and what the tower could have looked like way back when taken from a much graffiti 2011 photo )"

I've found it identified quite a few places as John. One person said he was three years old which seems reasonable. This is a great collection of pictures! I'm enjoying them immensely. :)

August 1957 at at Butlin’s camp on Filey Beach, Yorkshire. Mike McCartney took these photos of Paul with their cousin Bette Robbins, her son Ted and their dad Jim. In the first one Paul is sitting on Ted's stroller. LOL Mike managed to take these shots one-handed because he had broken his arm at scout camp. So sayeth Mark Lewisohn, page 139.  I've also read that Bette introduced Paul to Peggy Lee's music, namely "Til There Was You" so we have her to thank (or blame depending on your perspective) for that.

His head looks a bit too big in the second one to me as well but maybe I'm just looking for it now.

What are the chances?!

I'm pretty sure that Jimmy Tarbuck turns up on a school trip photograph, it might even be the same one, with John.

Just as you say, the blonde haired boy to John's right is Peter Sissons. The grinning dark haired lad with the clenched fists on John's left is indeed comedian Jimmy Tarbuck, "The terror of Woolton" as I believe Pete Shotton once called him!

They were on a school trip to The Isle Of Man.

I'm surprised to see a photo of Ringo in London in the fifties. A school trip? Maybe, but that doesn't look entirely like a school uniform he's wearing and he didn't spend much time at school. So how did he get there? Any ideas?
