Photobucket replaces millions of images with 'ransom demand'

400 freakin' dollars a year for hotlinking?? I hope no one pays them a cent and they go belly up. The ramifications of this are enormous. They ought to change their name to Scumbucket.

Yeah, that's what I've been using but when I tried posting that gif on the 4th I had trouble with it. But between them and YouTube the Beatles history thread has been pillaged.

That's outrageous! They won't be getting one more cent from me.

Aren't ransom demands a form of malware?   :-\

It was better until they sent me an email a bit ago...

They aren't satisfied with asking $400 to fix my pictures situation. Now they want me to buy things like condiments and motion activated toilet night lights.

It's madness!

No, don't look Kelley.

Maybe Photobucket was hacked again.  It's happened before.

I think TinyPic is owned by Photobucket.

Yes, TinyPic is owned by them. I need to find some place I can trust so I can redo all those pictures. I hope that this isn't an early clue to the new direction.

That would take longer than it took you to create the thread.

The silly offers you're getting is what leads me to believe that the site was hacked in some way and for some reason.

And I don't know about others here, but every time I get to a page on this forum that has a few of those update your account messages, I get  bumped off this website.

I can't explain that but I do know that those messages are legitimately from Photobucket. They have changed their terms of service to disallow third-party photo hosting to those without a $399 per year "Plus 500" account. Those message boxes are how they chose to announce it and the boxes are replacing people's photos all over the Internet.  I've also learned that the company that owns Photobucket is in the home goods business too. In fact, it's really their main interest now.

Kelley, we'll have to ask Dmitry about a way to upload pictures directly to this site and have them display at a reasonable size.

I hope all those Photobucket pictures of yours are on your computer.  The images I uploaded to TinyPic are on mine.  I've been using that hosting site exclusively for postng pictures on this forum.

That's a good idea.

They are, Barry. I have them organized into folders by month.
