Title: The Best Of The 50's
Post by: Ovi on December 06, 2011, 11:18:46 AM
I was thinking about creating my own compilation of the 50's best songs. But since I know only very few songs that would be good enough to make it, I'm asking for your help. I was thinking about 20 tracks. So, in other words, what's your favourite songs from the 50's ?

Definitely include "Hound Dog" or "Jailhouse Rock". Oh, and you gotta have "Rock Around the ClocK". It got this rock thing off the ground.  :)

Look out Miss Lotte Lenya!

Mackie Messer   Lotte Lenya (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mpMh5auMaVQ#)

Die Dreigroschenoper

Die Moritat von Mackier Messer
Kurt Weill, Bertholdt Brecht, 1928

Und der Haifisch, der hat Zähne
und die trägt er im Gesicht
und Macheath, der hat ein Messer
doch das Messer sieht man nicht.

Ach, es sind des Haifischs Flossen
rot, wenn dieser Blut vergießt.
Mackie Messer trägt 'nen Handschuh
drauf man keine Untat liest.

An 'nem schönen blauen Sonntag
liegt ein toter Mann am Strand
und ein Mensch geht um die Ecke
den man Mackie Messer nennt.

Und Schmul Meier bleibt verschwunden
und so mancher reiche Mann
und sein Geld hat Mackie Messer
dem man nichts beweisen kann.

Jenny Towler ward gefunden
mit 'nem Messer in der Brust
und am Kai geht Mackie Messer
der von allem nichts gewußt.

Und das große Feuer in Soho
sieben Kinder und ein Greis -
in der Menge Mackie Messer, den
man nicht fragt und der nichts weiss.

Und die minderjährige Witwe
deren Namen jeder weiss
wachte auf und war geschändet -
Mackie, welches war dein Preis?
Wachte auf und war geschändet -
Mackie, welches war dein Preis?

Hi Hello Goodbye! Guess what? I bought THE EVERLY BROTHERS REUNION CONCERT 1983 last night. There are two DVD versions, the newer and shorter version is widely available today, the shorter version contains 18 out of 20 songs that THE EVERLY BROTHERS performed that night at the Royal Albert Hall in 1983 for HBO. The old and full version, the one I purchased, contains all the 20 songs that were performed that night. I can't wait to get it, Take care.
