And I see The Shangri-Las' Give Him A Great Big Kiss is on that CD.  That's a group that formed not too far from where I lived at that time in Queens, NY.  The lead singer's older sister Betty Weiss recorded with the group but had stage-fright and seldom performed live.  But here she is, second from the left, looking real fine...

And here she is at her Sweet Sixteen Party...

I think I'm in love,  L  U  V!

Because she rarely performed live with the group, she was always a bit out of sync with the others...

But that made me love her even more!

And from New Jersey, you had The Angels...

You did The Wampo to that song.  It was a popular dance in The Bronx in 1963...

The Jaynetts were way ahead of their time in 1963...

The Great Society covered the song three years later...

Anyway, did you see The Lennon Sisters on The Lawrence Welk Show last night?

No, but I have a feeling I'm going to see them in about 13 years on their variety show.  ;)

You know, that song would make a great storyline for a movie!

Why don't you write one? Believe it or not, I think it should have a character sort of like that guy in the new Vladimir Nabokov novel.

Yes.  I think I'll name him James Leamington.  Maybe James Mason could play the role.  He was pretty good in last year's A Star Is Born.

I love the Jaynette's.  Have a few on the ipod.

I think Mary Weiss is the sweetheart in the Shangri-La's, but Betty was nice too.

Dammit Barry.  I'm enamored by her (Mary) in the video.  I'd feel like a pervert, but she's older than me.   ha2ha

I know just how you feel, Todd.  I've got the same thing for Betty.

Mary is seventeen in that video.  Betty is nineteen.  These girls worked hard to promote themselves while they were in junior and senior high schools.  I remember The Shangri-Las appearing on the New York United Cerebral Palsy Telethon.  They made appearances at New York City high school dances including the high school I attended which was only a few miles away from their school.  They were the white girl group of the 1960s, a tremendous achievement!  But they were talented and earned it.

Here they are when they started out in junior high school...

This was before Linda, Kelley.  I'm just reliving it now...before they take me away to the Ali MacGraw Ward.    ;D
