Any Time At All An effort in writing It Won't Be Long - same ilk. C to A minor, C to A minor with me shouting. John Lennon Playboy 1980
John and Cynthia Lennon along with George Harrison and Pattie Boyd spent nearly the entire month of May 1964 on vacation in Tahiti. John probably wrote Any Time At All during their vacation.
On 2 June 1964, The Beatles entered EMI Studio Two at 2:30 PM to work on the last three songs needed for the British A Hard Day's Night album. They started off with Any Time At All, recording seven takes with full band instrumentation and John singing the lead vocals. But they felt the song needed some more work so they turned their attention to Paul's Things We Said Today which they nearly completed by 5:30 PM.
During their 90 minute break, John and Paul worked on the piano instrumental for Any Time At all. The evening session began at 7:00 PM and The Beatles recorded When I Get Home in its entirety. At 9:00 PM they turned their attention back to Any Time At All recording four more takes with Take 11 deemed the best. After both John and Paul's vocals were overdubbed, Paul added piano in the verses and instrumental section as overdubs and John added the final two chord strums at the end of the song as an overdub. By 10:00 PM, the recording session was complete. John, Paul and George were present in the studio the following day for some final overdubs.
