German Sgt Pepper?
« on: February 18, 2007, 08:40:17 PM »

Hiya!

Has anyone got any idea what an original stereo German Sgt Pepper on Odeon looks like (SMO 81045)? I have just bought a copy and need to know if it's an original. My copy has a white Odeon label.

Thanks in advance!

AL :)

They left Ghandi off the album cover because they didn't want to risk the Indian market.

I found a couple of websites that talk about the German releases, but I'm sure you've already seen them. Here they are anyway!

http://eil.com/shop/moreinfo.asp?catalogid=173232 (This one's got pics but I think the catalogue number is different.)

http://www.beatlesshop.de/Beatles_records.htm (This one's got pics and your catalogue number.)

Here's the pic:

Sir Peter Blake stated recently that Adolf Hitler IS on the Sgt Pepper cover. Quote: "But you can't see him because he's behind the backs of The Beatles. You can see Hitler on other pictures from the cover." I have looked at them, but still can't see Hitler.

Doesn't really look like Hitler, but it's not very clear. Assuming it is him: are there pictures of the sleeve with Hitler on it? I guess he was put aside before the various pictures were taken.

I think it's mentioned in the liner notes of the CD release, that John wanted to put Hitler in there.

I remember that. I think he wanted to put Ghandi in too.

A cut-out of Hitler was made for inclusion on the LP cover but I don't think it was ever used - if you look at the out-takes from the photo-shoot Hitler cannot be seen and so I don't think he is obscured by John, Ringo, Paul or George; he remained propping up the wall!

Ghandi WAS actually used but was painted out before the album was released.

Look just above the head of the Diana Dors wax-work on the far right.

It was wise to exclude Hitler.
