You know I heard that recently--that it was macca--but I STILL can't believe its true...I know paul did the guitar lead in "Another Girl" but THAT was a McCartney compostion...I just find it so hard to believe that George would allow Paul to play lead on HIS "Taxman"...
if I'm wrong, I'll stand corrected--and I've been laboring under the delusion that it was Harrison' handy work since 1966 !!!   I always admired the guitar work in Revolver's lead off track...frankly, I'm dissapointed if it DOES turn out to be Paul who played it rather than George. Another indication of Paul's occasional "bossiness" in the band.

Well, apparently George asked him to play it. It's too late for me to look for a reliable quote right now, but Wiki says this:

In 1987, Harrison stated that he had been pleased McCartney agreed to play the guitar on "Taxman". In reference to McCartney's guitar solo, Harrison said, "I was pleased to have Paul play that bit on 'Taxman'. If you notice, he did like a little Indian bit on it for me." Harrison played bass guitar on the track.

Btw, if I haven't yet said welcome, then...welcome!

danke.

(boy i thought I knew everything about the Fab...but it's always cool to find out new/old stuff  lol)

(thought it was great that they asked Brian Jones to play the sax break in "You Know My Name (Look Up The Number)", seeing how Brian was treated so wretchedly by Mick & Keith near the end of Jones life..props to The Fab for that one---always loved B.J..(even though he was really out in space in the end, he was musically brilliant )

As far as his own compositions are concerned, I think "Savoy Truffle" is outstanding.  I also have great admiration for "Piggies," which sounds very hard to do because its really not guitar work, but studio magicianship.

yeah, all that harpsichord stuff..which had to be a George Martin's idea if it wasnt  Harrison's. Nice touch. And Savoy Truffle is SOO underated...a fantastic tune. So well played. This song should be played in every dentist office in the land.....NOT !   :o

I agree Andy. My favourite George guitar is the one from Abbey Road. The solo in Something is amazing, precious.
And yes, "Taxman"'s guitar is played by Paul!  :) The wonderful multi-instrumentalist Sir Paul McCartney. (I'm such a kissass).

Did Paul also play the lead guitar in Ticket to Ride? I think I remember reading that somewhere.

Yeah, I also am of definite mixed feelings on this ... surely it couldn't have contributed to group karma and harmony for him to relegate George to bass or whatever.

George has always been my fave (although that doesnt change my love for all four collectively in the least) but ...giving props to Macca, HE was always the best pianist in the band (aside from the occasional help from "Sir" George Martin) i've heard it said that it was Paul at the keyboard on "Martha"...if so, that's VERY impressive because it sure sounds a lot like Mr. Martin to me.

Sorry for my ignorance, but did George play lead on Day Tripper?  If so that would be my fav.  Also, Something, which happens to be my favorite Beatle song.

"Something;" although if I had any sense I'd think about that some more.

Is this the meaningless half?

Sorry, just kidding, but what thoughts did you have here?

Thanks!

(P.S. I consider it a GOOD day if ONLY half of what I say is meaningless!)
