I'm going to merge this topic with a topic by the same name we had a few years ago.  This is a great topic for discussion.

Thanks HG. I had a bit of a look to see if it'd been done before but didn't notice that thread

Was this another first? Direct injecting the bass guitar into the mixer rather than go through amp and microphone. Ken Townsend (Beatle engineer) seemed to think so. It's hard of course to be sure if it hadn't been tried elsewhere but I wonder if there's any record of it being used for bass before this.

Moog, I think Paul used a Tone Bender inline with his bass amp to get the fuzz bass effect...

So, you thought Joni Mitchell was the first to bar chords upside down with one finger, huh?

Well, it was The Beatles, six years before...

I guess The Beatles invented Joni Mitchell

Yes, Moog, Paul double-tracked his bass part; one track with his bass guitar run straight to his amp and the other track with his bass guitar run to his amp through the Tone Bender.

Paul played a Rickenbacker 4001S on this song...

But, Moog, I'm pretty sure John plugged his Epiphone Casino directly into the mixer to get that distortion on Revolution...

That's interesting. Hadn't heard of them doing direct injection with guitars.
