Title: George Martin before the Beatles
Post by: Kevin on October 10, 2008, 12:01:38 PM
I'll try and find as many as I can. I  think Mr M's role and influence with The Beatles is seriously undervalued. Here is the electronic single "Time Beat" and it's b side "Waltz in Orbit." If you get the chance read the  comments.

Nice. I know that he released under the name BBC Radiophonic Workshop. The tunes show that he would have had the right adventurous mind to understand and get the best from the 4 cheeky lads from Liverpool who could 'play a bit.'

He could tame the raw energy into something pallatable but he sure needed their dynamism and enthusiasm to work from in the first place. He is my undisputed 5th Beatle without a doubt.

The man himself was on TV tonight (in the UK on BBC4) on a documentary about Matt Monro.  He was v influential in his career.  Also Peter Sellers and  the Goons. Who were apparently funny. But not to me.

At the age of 22,jim dale, became the first recording artist under the wing of the now legendary Sir George Martin, who produced many hit records for him over the next two years. He first appeared in, then hosted the two top music shows on British television, "6-5 Special" and "Thank Your Lucky Stars"
