Cliff did manage to maintain a level of success through several decades. I can honestly state that nothing he did I have any interest in at all.

Even Wired for Sound didn't change my mind.

The much-maligned Cliff made about 10 great rock 'n' roll sides in Britain circa '58-'60.

He and The Shadows contribution to The Beatles success are the most neglected and under-rated of all the influences The Beatles clearly had pre-'Love Me Do'.

One observation.....would The Beatles, without them, have been afforded an album release as early as they were?
Billy Fury, hitting his peak in about 1960, wasn't.

They had one final big hit here in the United States with Come Dancing in 1983...

"Do It Again" had pretty decent success in 84' and was a much better song.  Probably in my top 5 Kinks tunes ever.  It didn't have the chart success that 'Come Dancing' had, but its the last Kinks song I remember getting regular air play on the radio.

Not much of a Cliff fan, but I always loved 'Devil Woman'

Sorry Bobber, ha ha!

But can we state that almost all bands from the first British Invasion (1964) were almost all gone from the charts ten years later? Interesting that bands from a little later (2nd half sixties) had more power to change and last longer. Moody Blues, Pink Floyd for example.

I suppose it was just natural attrition. Those bands were great with the early 60s sound but couldn't make the transition to the later rock styles.

The Stones, The Who, The Pretty Things and The Kinks may have adapted their sound (a.k.a. got bland) for the FM Radio market in the 1970s, but I wouldn't swap it for any of their '63-'69 stuff.

In the case of The Kinks, I've been known to do a sub-10 second 100 metres to get away from their post-'Arthur' material.

Besides 'SF Sorrow', The Pretty Things 70's output was better then their 60's stuff.  'Parachute', 'Silk Torpedo', and 'Freeway Madness' are all great albums. The 60's self titled, 'Get The Picture', and 'Emotions',,,not so much.

.....but my favourite albums of theirs ARE 'Get The Picture' and 'Emotions'!

If you took a straw poll in London, among anyone who'd actually ever heard of them (alas, in 2014 that would be a very, very small number) the 60s LPs would win hands down, as in Britain they were virtually invisible after about 1966.

Me too and I really wanted to see it again but three years later it’s still missing. Bummer!

It's been blocked, like so many others.  But you can watch it in this format.  Just tilt your head to the left...

I saw those but I was kinda hoping you’d come up with something better! I finally settled on the last one, in someone else’s living room, because I’m all out of Dramamine.

Yeah.  It's in HD so you can put it in full screen.  It's okay that way.
