Can I undo my vote? I was so distracted by the kangaroo that I misclickulated. Anyway...I always enjoy the novelty of the Anthology versions but in this case the released version has enough funny bits to make it my favorite. John usually makes me laugh with his outbursts but in Take 5 he sounds obnoxious to my ears, perhaps because I've read that he hated the song.

Thanks Barry. I did it right this time. I wish all my mistakes were that easily undone.

Paul wrote Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da as an homage to Desmond Dekker.  He even uses his name in the song...

Israelites

Desmond Dekker-Israelites

Desmond Dekker returned the compliment by recording Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da...

Ob-La-di, Ob-La-Da - Desmond Dekker

This is ska, maybe early reggae.  I like Take 5 with its ska feel.

I see what you mean. That's interesting to know who Desmond is.

there was a tv show in the 90's (?) that used this song as it's opening theme song.  totally ruined the song for me for a long long time.  Hard for me to listen to it still.

I kind of liked that they used it but yeah, I can see how it might be irritating to some. What really annoyed me was when "All You Need is Love"
was used in a diaper commercial.

it wasn't that they used it really, it wasn't the show itself, it was just that, to my knowledge, it was the first time commercially a tv show or commercial had dipped into the Beatles vault (I'm probably wrong).  I was a bit offended by the use of it.  Over time more and more has used their songs to pitch things so we've become numb to it I guess.

I voted for the released version, but to be honest, Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da has never really been one of my favorites roll:)

I've never been the biggest fan of Ob la di, ob la da either, (although I'd vote for the released version if I had to choose one over the other), BUT when I saw Macca perform a few weeks ago, I just LOVED when he played it live! He really rocked it, all 16 000 of us were singing along. Way catchier than I've ever heard!

Wasn't it Paul's brother who told us to try "Medicinal Compound" around about the same time? Now that was supposed to work wonders!!

I voted for Take 5. It has a warmth befitting such a lightweight, whimsical track, and Paul sounds loose and relaxed. Utterly charming reggae rhythm and nice tongue-in-cheek harmonies too.

The released version is swamped by those strident drums and over aggressive sound effects like choppy pianos and loud, forced laughter. The mix is too "busy" and pugnacious for such a gentle track, leaving Paul vocally fighting against the overwhelming mish-mash of noise around him by the end.
