ATMP will walk it. So I guess it's really race for second place.
Vote.... ;)

That's just too easy... :)

ATMP by a mile

All Things Must Pass :-)
-
All Things Must Pass....this is George's masterpiece of epic proportions creatively, musically & artistically which defined him as a solo artist.
-
Extra Texture,,,,,,,,err,,,,,sorry. ATMP!!!!!!
-
ATMP, duh.
-
Extra Texture (Read All About It) ... for me
-
As much as I like Extra Textyre and Living In The Material World (haven't heard the rest yet) I had to vote for ATMP
-
ATMP is the greatest Beatles solo album ever!
Beware The Darkness is absolutely great! It always reminds me of the turn Roger took after he left PF, actually.
George is my favorite Beatle because he was the moodiest. He was kind of an amalgam of Lennon and McCartney, and the best instrumentally.
-
I voted for the George Harrison album. It's my second favorite album because all of the songs he's written on it, those songs had came from his heart. :)
-
I voted 33 and a half because is easy to hear at any time you want. But, of course, All thing must pass is a masterpiece. But, You have to hear it in special moments, not all the time. Both are great! But my taste go direct trough Brainwashed, his last work, because there is his last thoughts, dreams an love. GREAT!!
-
I don't think All Things Must Pass is the greatest Beatles solo album ever andersonCouncill, that goes to JLPOB, which is the greatest solo album by a former Beatle.
-
AndersonCouncill said George was an 'amalgam' of Lennon/McCartney, so not only was he a super musician, I guess you could use him for tooth fillings.

All things must pass
Although I don't like the title song.

I like the Beatles' version from the Get Back Sessions better than George's individual version.

that's exactly the version I don't like :-/
I've listened to that and it had "All Things Must Pass" all over the place....I got sick of listening to it. More than I could bear, the whole CD had this song in slightly different versions....gaaaah....more than I could take. :(

I do like the harmonies John and Paul are providing.
-
All Things Must Pass with Extra Texture a close second.
-
I'm starting to like Living In The Material World a lot more than I did before. I like how it doesn't have the wall of sound and is a little more simple. All the songs are great too.
-
Suprisingly - All Things Must Pass ;)
Living In The Material World a close second.
-
We'll assume ATMP shouldn't even be in this list-- it's too easy! ;)
So I voted for 33 and a third for my second-place choice. It's happy and funny. Although George's eponymous album is on my list. I want to hold off and get a remastered version; I imagine Olivia will be rereleasing his entire catalog over time. That will be great!
-
Without doubt ALL THINGS MUST PASS is a masterpiece .
Second place has to be LIVING IN THE MATERIAL WORLD.
Extra texture has got to be GEORGES lowest point in his entire career IMO

I seem to remember having this conversation with someone else recently. They are all remastered and reissued except Dark Horse and Extra Texture. Possibly coming this year. 33 and a 3rd is included in the box set - The Dark Horse Years.
-
the best album by George could well be All Things Must Pass but
i always keep coming back to 33 & 3rd.
It's got so many great underated george songs on it and the guitar
solo on Pure Smokey is just so perfect!
-
A foregone conclusion really. Should have made the vote georges second best 70's album in which case i would have gon efor Thirty Three & A Third. In fact his second best album, period.
-
All Things Must Pass.....
The music speaks for itself... but don't get me wrong... the other records are gems too! :)

All things must pass
Although I don't like the title song.
Really???? I love the song 'All Things Must Pass'. It's one of the best tracks from the album. Well, actually I bought it today!! And I listened to it 2 times now. Fantastic record. I love George.

Ah, Wingsman, you lucky dog! I adore this album! I play it regularly and just love it to pieces. I enjoy all the tracks, but my personal favorites are What Is Life, Let It Down, Run Of The Mill, Ballad Of Sir Frankie Crisp (Let It Roll), and Hear Me Lord. I like Isn't It a Pity and Beware of Darkness when I'm a bit more contemplative. Just a fabulous album from start to finish. Cheers.

I've been impressed with some tracks, specially the ballads. There are more slow tunes than what I've expected. But there are incredibly good. For example, "I'd Have You Anytime" is really Dylanesque and a beautiful introduction to the album, which really takes strength with 'My Sweet Lord'. I'm loving this song so much. 'Wah-Wah' is quite weird. The first time I've listened to it I really didn't like it. 'Isn't It A Pity' is a perfect track. Today, listening to it, my brother began to sing 'na na na na-na-na-na na-na-na-na Hey Jude'... They are quite similar...
I don't know really all the songs yet, but they gave me a really good impression. All except the Apple Jam... I mean, what the hell is that? Anyway, a fantastic album.
-
All Things Must Pass to me could possibly be George's best work but the Apple
Jam let's it down & i'm not a big fan of the echo sound on it with the orchestration.
But overall, brilliant songs, I'd Have You Anytime is just so beautiful & peaceful. ;)

Yes, I've been listening to the Jam and it's crap. :-/

Yes, I've been listening to the Jam and it's crap. :-/
mm, i wonder if anyone knows why it was on the album? :-/
-
Maybe it was included just because George really wanted to have a TRIPLE album -the first ever for a solo artist- and make jealous the other Beatles.
Well I don't have idea. :)
-
I don't think it was to inspire jealousy, Wingsman! :D The other Beatles thought he was mad, and told him so. They said he was pricing himself right out of the market.
I think George was perversely doing his own thing. He didn't have great expectations for the album, because several of the songs had a religious content that he suspected might go over like a lead balloon. But this was his album, finally, and he was going to do what he pleased.
The only explanation I'd ever heard for the jams is that he expected these spontaneous warm-ups that were so much fun for him would disappear forever, and he wanted to include them. Someone once likened them to bonus tracks on a CD, and I think that's a good analogy. Since he expected only diehard friends would buy the album, it was something he suspected might be interesting to them. No one in their wildest dreams thought the album would be as successful as it turned out to be, critically and commercially. I think that's a lovely payback for any artist who has the chance to follow his heart. :)

I voted Thirty Three And A Third , as i like the overall feel of this album :)

That's my personal fav George album (which is quite an odd choice to people)
but it's a particular album that has held great memories to me.
Second favourite would be Cloud 9, 3rd: Brainwashed, ok.. that's enough! ;D ;)
-
All Things Must Pass is just amazing, one of my favorite solo albums. I especially like What Is Life, Awaiting On You All, All Things Must Pass, and If Not For You. Even though If Not For You was written by Bob Dylan, I think George does is beautifully, it's an amazing song. When that album came out, everyone was like "Whoa, I didn't think he was capable of this!" But, he proved everyone wrong. The lyrics are wonderful, the singing is wonderful, the guitar is wonderful, everything about it is wonderful.
-
Unfortunately, I only own ATMP and LITMW, so I won't vote on this, but ATMP is my favourite of those two.
-
You've got the best two, in my personal completely subjective opinion, Badfinger_Boogie. :) However, I really like George Harrison and play it often, so you might want to add that to your collection. Personally, I think Brainwashed is top notch, easily ATMP and LITMW caliber, but it's not on our 70s list. Cheers.

It's okay. I'm going to buy all his solo albums sooner or later anyway.
I do own other solo albums though. Just not from the 70s. So far, Cloud Nine is my favourite. (thumbsup)
-
Heh. No votes for 'Dark Horse', my second fave. Silly me.
:)
-
Love many of his albums, but ATMP gets my vote, it is superb.
-
Yes, I've been listening to the Jam and it's crap. :-/
I love the jams, but then I love the whole of ATMP. Actually, thats not quite true. I hate Spector's reverb and wall of sound, but it doesn't detract too much. Yes, I agree that its the best solo album by an ex-Beatle. It's just incredible and its probably not surprising that George's subsequent albums weren't in same league. How could you even try to top that?
-
ATMP gets my vote.

It will, and my second place vote goes to Thirty-Three and 1/3.

I first heard it years ago while I was lazing on a beach in Vancouver: some guy further down was playing "True Love" on a boombox, and it took until "Crackerbox Palace" for me to finally recognize George. So I schlepped into a record store on the way home and bought the thing. Its got a very cool white soul (I guess) type of sound.
