They very trusting. Everything at our house is geared twords birds! I have about 1-200 Chimney Swifts that live in my chimney's all summer and have they're babies there. They are very specialized birds and are being threatened as large smokestacks and chimneys are being covered up. We keep most of ours open. Much fun watching them all tumble in to bed at dusk!

Now that made me literally LOL Todd. But Kev, I can see why they like it in your yard. It's beautiful and you are a gracious host hand feeding them like that. I have a bunch of little bird friends where we go for ice cream. I am close to getting them to eat pieces of cone out of my hand. I am going to make sure to go there as many times as it takes this summer. I will force myself to eat the ice cream just for them.  ;D

Our yard is full of babie birds this week! They're all fledging. Right now we're watching two babie bluebirds sitting on a feeder, not quite sure what to do. They'll figure it out when they get hungry! It's been a big year for newbies!

Your advice is duly noted Kevin! As for the babies, I could have had a nest full right outside my backdoor in my hanging basket but I'm a big meanie a put wooden skewers around the inside.

Sometimes there's two breeding cyles. Keep trying. Everything we do in our yard takes birds into consideration. They know when your on their side and will reward you with their presence! :)

I haven't noticed any of the birds in my backyard mating twice in a year.  I've got robins, blue jays, cardinals and sparrows.  They're all fat right now because they feasted on the cicadas.

Besides the birds, I've got skunks, 'possums, deer, foxes, ground hogs, raccoons, chipmunks and squirrels (black and gray) back there too.  Lots of critters!!

The bluebirds will have two broods if the conditions are right. The first brood will help raise the 2nd. We've watched this at our home when we lived in GA. I've seen what look like tree swallow babies in our fields later in july  after the first hatch. We have a mating pair of eastern (baltimore) orioles in our old cow path. Thats my favorite bird thing this year.
We have tons of critters too. This afternoon I saw a poecupine in our field. We have a herd of 9 deer as there's a new fawn jumping around out there. Groundhogs, red and gray squirrels, occasional moose, hawks ( I caught one with my bare hands in my chicken coop), vultures, least weasel (once),aprox. 100-150 chimney swifts in my chimneys, 3 bears a couple of years ago, turkeys, fischer cats!!! A whole flock of snow buntings spent about 3 weeks withus a few years ago( see second 2 pictures)The list goes on. No roo's though!

Are the weasels still around? Or did you leave them out because you couldn't think of a weasel song? ;)

Around here we call them woodchucks. If you have a garden you call them some other names!

I noticed on your map that you've moved! You were in Buffallo before, right? How do you like the country?!

I didn't really move, I just moved the pin! I wasn't too sure about this map thing when we first got it. On the bird front, the Mama Bird won. She is happily sitting on her nest, in my hanging basket. And yesterday a mourning dove decided the ceiling fan on the porch was a good place to perch. She or he was in and out all morning. I think it liked my music. I swear it was singing along with the ending of "In the Still of the Night" at one point. LOL

Hey Barry
That picture of America (on the you tube) I remembered made me go out and buy a Levi denim jacket when I was 19, its funny the things that come back to you, I remember thinking Dan peek looked so cool, I think they used one from that session on the cover of the Homecoming album.

No, when they drag Dunkirk Dave outta his hole they call it Groundhog Day.  ;D The kid down the street told me today that if we could get the town cop to come as a witness we could shoot that fat woodchuck with a .22. I almost burst trying not to laugh at that scenario and what it says about our little town!

They have they're ways. I'm just an observer. This fawn was in the street a few weeks back when I was coming home from work at 10 pm so I rolled down the window and had a conversation with her. She sttod there looking and listening for a few minutes and slowly wandered off. They hang out on my property in hunting season because they know they're safe.
I took this  picture of a fawn just a few minutes after she was born a few years ago. For all I know it could be the same one. It's a little blurry because of the screens.

Aww. The little ones are so cute. Even though I live in town we get deer quite often. Last year there was a doe and her twins. They don't seem afraid, even when I have one of the dogs out. In fact last year a big doe was walking right toward us. The dogs are usually good but we went in because I didn't want her to lunge and make me have do that giant steps thing to stay upright.  ;D
